The Saga of the Bridal Doll...w/ photos

Original post by mRm2008

When my FH moved into his house my FMIL sent over some items she had been 'storing' for him over the years. One item was a Bridal Doll that his Grandma 'Mama B' made 16 years ago. When FH told me about it I was excited (at first) b/c family and traditions are really important to me. When he showed it to me I changed my mind IMO it was very creepy looking. I try to keep an open heart and mind about things, but this is pushing me a bit far!

I have been kicking around the thought of how this Bridal Doll issue is going to play out on our wedding day. FMIL and us have already had some 'issues' over wedding planning and decisions. I do not want to offend her or Mama B, God rest her soul, if I do not include this doll somehow in our day. I DO NOT WANT IT IN OUR RH OR AT OUR HEADTABLE!!!

So I was speaking to my Nana about the whole situation. She's like 'yes the traditional bridal doll, it gets tied to the bride/groom's car the day of their wedding.' I totally thought she was full of ****, but she was dead serious!!! So I googled it today and found that she is right, its a Russian/Eastern European custom!!
So now I have my plan!!
ITS GOING ON OUR LIMO!!!!

Hope it holds up going down the highway
Please don't think I am a horrible person for laughing at this situation, I am just relieved I have a plan and explanation for the use of the doll for my FMIL!!

wow i never heard of doing that with the doll - interesting.

that doll is a little scary looking haha

my mom used to own a wedding store in hewlitt and she used to make dolls for brides as well. but she would get barbie doll type ones and order the hair to match and my mom would make the dolls dress to MATCH the brides dress - they were actually gorgeous.. if i ever find pics ill post them

yes! i have heard of that...where relation of the bride (mother, grandmother, sister) will have a doll made to match the bride and her gown and give it as a gift.

i had never heard of this until i was in the situation!

i said to FH that i guess his Mama B wanted him to marry a redhead uh oh
