The scariest experience just happened to me!

So Im in a suburb of Chicago right now for training for work, and we're on the 14th floor (the top floor) of this huge building. So our trainer went outside the classroom and saw that the weather had turned really bad. (which is crazy cause it was just sunny an hour earlier at lunch) So she came back in the classroom and said....'I dont want to scare you guys, but the weather has turned really bad so I want to go over the emergency evacuation procedure with you in case of a tornado.' SCARY! So she tells us what the evac procedure is and then lets us go on a 5 minute break.
As we're on break, a woman comes down our hall and says...'Everyone needs to get to the basement, theres a tornado coming!' Honestly, I almost shat my pants when I heard this! So everyone starts freaking out and heads to the stair well as we were earlier instructed to do. So were sitting in the stair well...you could hear the wind, you could feel the building shaking, the lights were flickering on and off!!!! It was one of the scariest moments in my life, no joke! So our instructor FINALLY decided...hey, maybe we should get to the basement. So we walked 14 floors, as fast as we could, down to the basement where we waited it out.
So eventually we got word that the tornado had passed and came back up to the room. The administrators decided to let everyone in the building go home early cause apparently their are more severe storms likely for this evening and they dont want people to be stuck in traffic. There are all kinds of tree branches in the roads and powerlines down!
Honestly ladies, other than spiders and small spaces, there is nothing I fear more than tornados. This was like my worst nightmare come true! Im surprised at how well I handled it, but I think that was due to all the strangers that I was surounded by. I didnt want them to think I was crazy. Now im just sitting in my hotel room praying to God that another tornado does not come anywhere near here!

Awww don't worry you'll be fine. I know it's scarey. I was in a bad hurricane in Yucatan, Mexico 2 years ago.

Ohhh mannnn....dont even get me strated with hurricanes. I grew up in south florida so im VERY familiar with them. I made it through Hurricane Andrew and all! But for some reason, tornados scare me so much more than hurricanes. I think its their unpredictability.

Okay - we need to focus right now that you are okay right now! You didn't freak out at your job and that's really great!!!!

No, im on the first floor here...thank God! They just said a severe storm will be coming through my area in the next 15 minutes. W T F!!

I might just hang out in the bathtub for the rest of the night. lol

Just remember that your safety comes first....Keep the weather channel or news on so you're in the loop as to what is going on....Good luck!

yeah, I have the local news on now so im just waiting for the warning to come up. Hopefully it wont. Its black outside my window right now. Crazy!

You'll be okay. You said it - you are on the first floor...also - the hotel would notify you if there was trouble coming... Maybe you need to NOT watch the weather...watch a dumb comedy show or something...watch a movie - get caught up in something else...

me 2 i am PETRIFIED of tornados!! i even have nightmares about them!! how scary for you!

Ok, its pitch black outside right now and the tornado sirens are going off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The tv just cut out and is not working anymore! I feel like im in a bad movie or something.

I am literally now typing this as I sit in the bathtub in my bathroom.

Ok, the tv started working again so im not in the bathtub anymore. I figure that if theyre able to get satelite then theres probably not a tornado right outside my door. lol

This is honestly one of the craziest storms I have ever been in. (other than the hurricanes I've experienced) The rain is coming down really hard, its super windy, and theres a lightning strike about every 15 seconds or so! WOW!

Yeah, I very much enjoyed when I lived in NY cause you guys have pretty 'normal' weather there!
