THE TRUTH ABOUT MIA

Original post by Ann 52409

I am rewriting the post to only include the facts of my interacting with Mia the hair and make-up artist not to tell you what to do but letting all the brides know my honest opinion.
When we give a bad review on a vendor it is important to only state the facts and dont state 'Beware or Dont Trust' so that it is not slander and the post dont get removed. This way we as brides can see the positive and negative of all vendors.
I have already heard bad stories about Mia but since I wrote the last post I have received numerous FM from brides that had BAD experiences with her that have not written about it and I think that is the only way we get a fair review (from nasty threatening email, to no call or show, to not returning money, etc). I booked all of my vendors based on reviews from this board.
I booked Mia in 2007 based on all of the things I heard about her without doing a trial. I kept asking for a contract and I would continue to receive emails back saying 'consider this your contract'. Anyway, about seven months later I booked a trial and was determined to get a contract from her. The first trial was cancelled about an hour before I was suppose to meet her. The second trial Mia showed up about 45 minutes late and blamed (her assistant) which is the excuse I heard she gives many brides. I should have taken this as a warning, but I didnt and she did a good job so I asked for a written contract.
I know she doesn't usually give written contracts because she was looking all over to find one and told me she would mail it but I told her I will wait. she wrote on the contract that she would do 10 makeup and 5 hair plus the bride.
Fastforward to a couple weeks ago, my coordinator calls her to schedule a time line for the girls since she said they take a half hour each and she was bringing two assistants plus herself, I know make-up should not take more than 2 and half 3 hours. Mia proceeds to say, ' cant her girls go to the hair dresser the night before the wedding, I dont have anyone for hair' then I tell her this is not okay. The next conversation she says well 'I can come at 11 and only do the bride and her mother, I dont have someone to do all those girls, she added a lot of people.' I called Mia after this and she didnt answer or call back so I emailed her coordinator to find out what is going on because I have a written contract that says the number of people she was doing , even though I'm sure she doesn't remember giving me a contract. This is the reason she doesn't normally give one......
Mia's assistant tells me that since I have a contract Mia will have to start the girls at 5AM. Now she knows there is NO WAY anyway does make-up at 5AM for a ceremony that starts at 5:30 PM. I email the assistant back and tell her this is not okay and Mia needs to call me.
This is because now that she realizes I have a written contract she knows she has to do it so all of a sudden she can find people but they have to come at a CRAZY time so they can get to the other wedding she has booked on my day.
Mia then calls my coordinator (not me) and tells her to let me know I have three options. 1. The girls are started at 5am and there is a fee for anyone that is late. 2. She only does myself and my mother. 3. She gives me back my trial fee and deposit and forget the whole thing.
Thanks to the wonderful brides I have met on this site, I found an amazing make-up artist and I know someone wonderful for hair. When I cancel Mia, she states that since I took over a week to get back to her she is only giving me back the trial money and not the deposit, which I really dont care about but it's the principal.
She has an ATTITUDE and she does not even apologize.
How on earth can I find a make-up artist and hair stylist for myself and my bridal party for memorial day weekend in 1 WEEK? She knew that was crazy.
Because I dont want this post removed again I will just say that I would NEVER book a vendor again without a written contract stating not only the number of people but the TIME. I also wish I knew the stories that I am hearing now BEFORE I booked this artist.
There are so many talented make-up artist and hair stylist and I would never want to put time, energy and money into a vendor that would do this to someone weeks before there wedding.

FM me with any questions or details

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT ***

Again I am sorry about all of this...

I have to agree with Future Mulligan...all my experiences with her have been top notch so..those that are booked I would not start to freak out..if you have concerns just email Teresa and I am sure they will do what they can for you..O know that she knows about what has been going on on here so I am sure they are expecting to be contacted by concerned brides.

I feel terrible b/c I am not sure why all this happened...but I am glad it worked out in the end...

Yes, you DO need to insist that she mail you a written contract.

1. Adress where service will be performed
2. How many people she is doing
3. What kind of service: ie hair ad or makeup
4. How many people SHE needs to bring with her.
5. Date of service
6. TIME you are starting.
7. PRICE!

Get it all in writing. Period.

And her signature.

Sign a copy and return it with your signature as well

I also have had nothing but good encounters with both Theresa and ***. *** spent an hour on the phone with me when I first booked her and you can't say she was just being nice cause I was booking her because I won FREE hair and m/u at the 09 shower. This site has thousands of brides which means thousands of opinions and experiences both good and bad. I contacted a vendor that is HIGHLY recomended by alot of brides on here and I did not care for them at all and booked with whom FH and I were happy with. The truth about LIFE is 'to each his own'.

To the OP I'm sorry things turned out the way they did with *** but you found someone else and I'm sure you will you will be beautiful and your day will be AMAZING!!!

I am so sorry you are going through this.

As for the deposit, take her to small claims court. I bet she'll change her tune real fast!

Good Luck!

Sorry this happened to you. I personally love her and am really excited to use her. I recieved a contract from her the day after my trial.. she seems very easy going and easy to work with so I am not sure what happened in your situation.

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT ***

I called M^I^A a while back. She put me on hold for like literally 2 minutes (I think she was shuffling her kids out of the car or something, so understandable) then asked me a MILLION questions. After a 10 minute conversation she realized that she was booked on my wedding date, so she had me get in touch with her assistant who I had another conversation with and scheduled a consult. Well, when I didn't get the confirmation email from her, I finally called back wondering where it was and she said 'oh I have been meaning to call you.... M^I^A and I were going over the calendar and we realized I'm booked on your wedding date too. Sorry.'

It took ME calling them to find this out.....

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT ***

Im really sorry that this happened to you. I have never heard nothing but good things about ***.. I just got married and my experience with is nothing but GREAT!!. I must have changed my mind like million times about my hair. took 2 trails and still last min. i changed my mind. There was never no attitude. I spoke to her on the phone and texted her so many times. The day of she was there early and everyone came out so good. She went above and beyond to help me. She moved things around to make everything look nice for the photos. She made sure i looked my best. :) The contract i received via emial. Which was fine. I told her how many people would like to get hair and make-up and she was up front w/ me from jump and told me if she can do it. So for those who are booked and are considering her just go w/ your own experience.

I'm glad that everyone gets to post there experience good and bad but I will say that I dont think it is EVER okay for a vendor to need a picture before they determine if they are available and to also be hesitant with giving contracts is bad too.........
for all the people that have good experiences I am glad it worked out for you and for all the people that have had bad experiences I know what it feels like and I hope other brides learn from our situation..... especially those booked on a popular weekend

Funny Story:

So today I was having my hair trial done and my hair dresser asked if I had my makeup booked yet and I told her yes, and then we started talking about different make up artists and she said I know one that is great but so unreliable. I have worked many weddings with her where she showed up really late and I was like that's crazy.

She then says have you ever heard of *** and I then told her all about this post. She said that she has worked with her a couple of weddings where she pulled he same stuff and that she wouldnt recommend *** to anyone because of that.

I just thought it was funny because this post is going on right now....

It was INTERESTING that I had 2 conversations with them... then I had to call THEM and they were like 'oh, oops, sorry'

They actually (albeit briefly) entertained the idea of coming to my house in Port Jeff first, saying they had to be in LONG beach by noon. And how would that work again???? I had to tell THEM that there was no way I was going to have my hair and makeup rushed. Aside from the fact that my photog isn't coming until 2:30..... so I'm gonna sit around for 4 hours in hair and mu worried about messing it up? riiiiight
