THE TRUTH ABOUT MIA

Original post by Ann 52409

I am rewriting the post to only include the facts of my interacting with Mia the hair and make-up artist not to tell you what to do but letting all the brides know my honest opinion.
When we give a bad review on a vendor it is important to only state the facts and dont state 'Beware or Dont Trust' so that it is not slander and the post dont get removed. This way we as brides can see the positive and negative of all vendors.
I have already heard bad stories about Mia but since I wrote the last post I have received numerous FM from brides that had BAD experiences with her that have not written about it and I think that is the only way we get a fair review (from nasty threatening email, to no call or show, to not returning money, etc). I booked all of my vendors based on reviews from this board.
I booked Mia in 2007 based on all of the things I heard about her without doing a trial. I kept asking for a contract and I would continue to receive emails back saying 'consider this your contract'. Anyway, about seven months later I booked a trial and was determined to get a contract from her. The first trial was cancelled about an hour before I was suppose to meet her. The second trial Mia showed up about 45 minutes late and blamed (her assistant) which is the excuse I heard she gives many brides. I should have taken this as a warning, but I didnt and she did a good job so I asked for a written contract.
I know she doesn't usually give written contracts because she was looking all over to find one and told me she would mail it but I told her I will wait. she wrote on the contract that she would do 10 makeup and 5 hair plus the bride.
Fastforward to a couple weeks ago, my coordinator calls her to schedule a time line for the girls since she said they take a half hour each and she was bringing two assistants plus herself, I know make-up should not take more than 2 and half 3 hours. Mia proceeds to say, ' cant her girls go to the hair dresser the night before the wedding, I dont have anyone for hair' then I tell her this is not okay. The next conversation she says well 'I can come at 11 and only do the bride and her mother, I dont have someone to do all those girls, she added a lot of people.' I called Mia after this and she didnt answer or call back so I emailed her coordinator to find out what is going on because I have a written contract that says the number of people she was doing , even though I'm sure she doesn't remember giving me a contract. This is the reason she doesn't normally give one......
Mia's assistant tells me that since I have a contract Mia will have to start the girls at 5AM. Now she knows there is NO WAY anyway does make-up at 5AM for a ceremony that starts at 5:30 PM. I email the assistant back and tell her this is not okay and Mia needs to call me.
This is because now that she realizes I have a written contract she knows she has to do it so all of a sudden she can find people but they have to come at a CRAZY time so they can get to the other wedding she has booked on my day.
Mia then calls my coordinator (not me) and tells her to let me know I have three options. 1. The girls are started at 5am and there is a fee for anyone that is late. 2. She only does myself and my mother. 3. She gives me back my trial fee and deposit and forget the whole thing.
Thanks to the wonderful brides I have met on this site, I found an amazing make-up artist and I know someone wonderful for hair. When I cancel Mia, she states that since I took over a week to get back to her she is only giving me back the trial money and not the deposit, which I really dont care about but it's the principal.
She has an ATTITUDE and she does not even apologize.
How on earth can I find a make-up artist and hair stylist for myself and my bridal party for memorial day weekend in 1 WEEK? She knew that was crazy.
Because I dont want this post removed again I will just say that I would NEVER book a vendor again without a written contract stating not only the number of people but the TIME. I also wish I knew the stories that I am hearing now BEFORE I booked this artist.
There are so many talented make-up artist and hair stylist and I would never want to put time, energy and money into a vendor that would do this to someone weeks before there wedding.

FM me with any questions or details

I called M^I^A a while back. She put me on hold for like literally 2 minutes (I think she was shuffling her kids out of the car or something, so understandable) then asked me a MILLION questions. After a 10 minute conversation she realized that she was booked on my wedding date, so she had me get in touch with her assistant who I had another conversation with and scheduled a consult. Well, when I didn't get the confirmation email from her, I finally called back wondering where it was and she said 'oh I have been meaning to call you.... M^I^A and I were going over the calendar and we realized I'm booked on your wedding date too. Sorry.'

It took ME calling them to find this out.....

She is booked, by ME! And I hope she has that confirmed!

It was INTERESTING that I had 2 conversations with them... then I had to call THEM and they were like 'oh, oops, sorry'

They actually (albeit briefly) entertained the idea of coming to my house in Port Jeff first, saying they had to be in LONG beach by noon. And how would that work again???? I had to tell THEM that there was no way I was going to have my hair and makeup rushed. Aside from the fact that my photog isn't coming until 2:30..... so I'm gonna sit around for 4 hours in hair and mu worried about messing it up? riiiiight

Funny Story:

So today I was having my hair trial done and my hair dresser asked if I had my makeup booked yet and I told her yes, and then we started talking about different make up artists and she said I know one that is great but so unreliable. I have worked many weddings with her where she showed up really late and I was like that's crazy.

She then says have you ever heard of *** and I then told her all about this post. She said that she has worked with her a couple of weddings where she pulled he same stuff and that she wouldnt recommend *** to anyone because of that.

I just thought it was funny because this post is going on right now....

Interesting story, I have been hearing so many late or no show stories because of another wedding lately.... I wonder how come I haven't heard them like this before.
at least the truth has a chance to come out now

I've heard this quite a bit. I hear she is talented but there are all these other things you hear about ... and being reliable it just as important as being talented.

So because of this and that fact that she is on the pricey side (I'll pay more money for someone who has both talent and reliability but not just one) I never even booked a trial with her. Even though my DOC recommended her. I don't want to be chasing her around and I don't want to have to worry what stunt she will pull.

Anytime I even slightly entertain the idea of her... I immediately get turned off by the above.

There are many more talented artists out there that are also reliable. I have to believe there are!! HAHAHA because i didn't book my MU artist yet... and I need to get on that.

Seriously???

i had a good experience with her for my trial too, but honestly, how can i just trust that?? it has nothing to do with what will happen day of. but if she shows up late, i will flip. I cant tolerate that. And looking back I realize now that I only have a contract signed by ME. So I just emailed her asking for one signed by M ia and emailed to me today. Seemingly it doesnt matter anyway.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with all that, but happy that you were able to find people to replace her that you love!

there was an 08 bride in her review mention about her lateness that is major NO NO.

Its funny how another professional would mention that to you too.. I would trust the pro that told you that ... When I was booking my photogs, my freind (she is an older woman) owns a photog business but she doesnt do photojouranlism so we didnt go with her, Anyway she has been in the biz for over 40 years and knows all the photogs out there.. well I told her I was going to see one that my RH recommended and she told me they had such a bad rep and they would either cancel or send rookie photogs instead of the ones you booked! Then later I came on here and there was a post about them too.. which I though was funny.. see people who give you advice like that its for a reason

Yeah I noticed M-I_A was *** again.

Lets test it:

***
***

Why is M-i_A blocked? Is it a dirty word??

I think its blocked because its the vendor's name

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT ***

I also had a negative experience. I attempted to book ***** about 6 months before my wedding date but she kept insisting it was too early and to contact her later. When I tried again later she booked the date, even though she promised she'd let me know if anyone else was interested in my date. So she offered her assistant at the time, Giovanna (who now opened up her own business). Giovanna and Starr worked out great, but M I A also promised she would drop by the reception hall to touch me up before the ceremony since she couldn't provide me with the services I asked her for. We added that into my contract and I confirmed with her about 3 times before wedding date. She never showed up to the hall and she never returned the messages that I left and my bridal party left her the day of. I was just disappointed over the fact that she didn't even have the courtesy to get back to me and tell me she couldn't make it or she won't be making it. I was stressing over it at a time when this should have been the least of my worries. When I was looking to book her I read through every review I could find about her and not a single one was negative. Just want to be fair to other brides and share my experience.

Re: THE TRUTH ABOUT ***

sorry you ladies had to go thru this with her. to be honest with you, she was one of the vendors i tried contacting to find out prices and all for hair and makeup for my day of wedding and till today she has not replied to my e-mails, lol. it figures and now i see why - cause she is just so unreliable and so unprofessional. who would want to book with someone like that? after sending her various e-mails asking if she is available for my day of wedding and that i'd like to try a trial with her and not getitng ONE reply back from her really made me realize she is not even worth it when she can't even respond to an e-mail how can i even trust her and take the chance, you know? this was weeks ago, before i had anyone booked for my hair & makeup. so after this happend i thankfully heard awesome things about elana from bridal touch and i contacted her and till today i have nothing but AMAZING GREAT things to say about her. she calls me back everytime i call her, she responds to all my e-mails right away, answers all my questions and gets back to me right away with anything! i love her and i am so glad i contacted her, booked with her and cannot wait for my trial with her for next week! :)

this is why i love this place. you get to share your experience with each other and hear the negative and positive feedback from vendors which really can help you decide who to go for and not and that is GREAT! :)

PS: now that i think about it and read all these negative threads about ***, I am so glad she didn't reply to my e-mails and i didn't even have the chance to book a trial with her! :)
