The truth about peonies..

I love peonies and really would love to use them in my bo-ks. However, depending where you read, some sites will tell you they are or arent available around the date of my wedding! Is there someone out there who can tell me the truth about this! Thanks ladies!

they are in season from about early May-June i think....it's not a lie...my BF is a florist....pretty sure July is pushing it for peonies

its not that you can't get them...it's a question of how expensive they will be if they aren't in season here in the States. Flowers are shipped in from all over the world so you will rarely find a flower that absolutely cannot be gotten at a particular time of year.

ok cool..i am using burtons and its one price no matter what flower so if they can get them then i want them!

i had just peonies as my cp's and intermixed in my bouquet.

I got married in june so i was in luck. They can ship them but if they are not in season here they are really really expensive. They are already expensive flowers even in season here- I can't even imagine when they are not. Honestly I would be really surprised if they would give them to you if not in season.

What does your florsit say?

Burtons has a stipulation that states if the flower is not in season then it will cost extra to have them shipped. I know this because we were talking about shipping in lilacs for me

Yes its the truth-they are in season during mid may-end of june...sometimes earlier. You can still get them afterwards but it costs more b/c of where they are coming from and the shipping, etc.

I paid 200ish per cp I do not remember the bq price. My wedding was 2 yrs ago.

I was supposed to have 36 peopnies in each cp. The day of the wedding they only put about 18-20 per cp. That is a WHOLE other issue I had with my florist

I LOVE peonies...I was worried because they really have a short time they are in season. Our wedding is mid June. If you don't mind paying a high price, they should be able to accommodate you. I'm going to scale back on some other flowers (church etc.)...so we can afford them.

i had peonies for my bok, but my wedding was in may. They are only in season for about 6 weeks really...they are expensive to begin with but if its not in season it will be real expensive...even if burtons charges the same for all flowers from what i remember if its not in season they wont get it.

I do remember however that when i went to the wholesale flower district in manhattan, for my e-party they had peonies. This was in february, but even in the wholesale district they were expensive, wholesale which is usually alot lower was pricey, so a florist will charge more obviously.

you can get them but you will have to pay extra. I am having peonies in my bouquet and I am getting married in April. My florist orders them from another country. Burton may only order within the United States that why you many not be able to get them.

I am pretty sure that they are not in season, but I'm sure you can still get them.. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend.. My florist told me for a sept wedding she would pay 15-20 PER FLOWER for them and I am not not not spending that much on flowers... I really wanted them and if they were maybe 6 or 7 per I might have thrown a few in but thats just crazy!!! Although, because I love them so much, my MOH's bo-k is going to be mostly peonies.

BTW: Most florist don't garentee that they will come in alive because they order from other countries... My parents wedding was in sept as well and my mom wanted Lillies of the Valley and her florist ordered them for her from another country... They came in dead and brown to my mom paid for nothing... If you do have them ordered, make sure you have some kind of garentee they wont come in dead.

Yes, all the posts about what time of year peoneys bloom is correct. My father LOVED peonies so since they aren't in bloom in early April I'm still spending the extra $$ just for his rememberence vase...plus, I know this is correct b/c I have like 6 in my yard.... I looove them! Wish I could have TONS in my wedding...but unfortunitly i can't......

i was told NO for peonies. my wedding was oringinally going to be july 17. they said they could fly them in from belgium and i was like, um, no way. so now that its in august, i had to go with something else anyway.

my florist is awesome and showed me many many other alternatives to peonies. they were my favorite flower and every pic form a magazine i chose had them. i will post pics from my CP sample.

the florist should know which flowers will be a perfect alternative. good luck!

In general mid-May to June. But there is a guy who lives in my apartment complex who is actually growing them (2 years now) and they are still in bloom and beautiful. I can see if he will grow them special for your wedding!!!
