I love peonies and really would love to use them in my bo-ks. However, depending where you read, some sites will tell you they are or arent available around the date of my wedding! Is there someone out there who can tell me the truth about this! Thanks ladies!

Re: The truth about peonies..
My wedding is in Sept. My florist said he can get peonies for me but just in case, he said I should have a second choice. And I do, so I'm not worried. I'd be happy with either the peonies or my second choice.

My florist told me it is like a 2 month window if you are lucky depending on the season. I was so disappointed because I didn't know that and wanted that for my Bo-K. I had absolutely know idea until he crushed my hopes and dreams oh well- all you May/June brides are soooooooo lucky!!!!

ok cool..i am using burtons and its one price no matter what flower so if they can get them then i want them!
Burtons has a stipulation that states if the flower is not in season then it will cost extra to have them shipped. I know this because we were talking about shipping in lilacs for me
OKAY! Peonies are my absolotue favorite flowers! When I was picking out flowers, I found out the truth!
They can be shipped from somewhere in the world at any time of year. HERE IS THE PROBLEM!!
When they ship Peonies from far away, they arrive to you already open, a little beat up, and smaller than they would be if they were grown nearby. Thats because they pick before bloom time them and freeze them. When they ship they revive to make sure they aren't 'dead', and send it to you. These are 'near dead' peonies.
If you get them locally they pick at the lastest point before blooming when the bud is biggest and they usually open full bloom right before they are used.
If you like big fluffy flowers like I do, try the look of Hydrangea. They come in all kind of colors and can be dyed or painted. (The paint smells though)

Reputable florist will say they will not provide Peonies in off season months because they are just not good enough quality for use.

Re: The truth about peonies..
This is what I am doing because I want peonies so much and my wedding is in July: I am mixing fresh flowers with really good silk peonies. With the mix of the fresh flowers, no one can tell the difference.
On a side note, I was told the same thing about having them shipped when they are out of season. When you get them they don't look that great and they don't last long.

Ughh! I'm so torn over this. I love love love them so much.... I might actually stick a few silk ones..
If my aunts find out I used silk flowers they will set the place on fire

Re: The truth about peonies..
Your best bet is to find other flowers that resemble the peonies there are a few.... cabaage roses and english garden roses are very close.
Other big pretty blooms ( not quite like peonies but very pretty)
I had done some research before on this b/c I had wanted floating peonies for centerpieces.. I am going with gardenias instead.
Good luck!!!
