The Wedding Center of Commack

So I have read that this place is great for looking due to the wide variety but not buying.

Can someone help me with why???

Haven't been myself but most of the complaints I've read are due to poor customer service.

BTW..I'm getting married the day after you!

The place has a really bad rep as far as customer service. I bought my dress and BMs dresses there and really had very little problem, but I can see how/why there could be bad experiences. Some of the women who work there are very rude - but I had little of that in my experience. The woman who helped me the day I picked out my dress was super friendly and funny - she wanted to come out for drinks with me and MOH. I really liked working with her, but I don't think she works there anymore. One bad thing that happened - when my dress came in, there was a tiny hole right in front (not on a seam). It was barely noticeable, but there was no way I was keeping the dress like that. The woman helping me that day made it obvious that she thought I was making a big deal over 'nothing' and that it was a pain for her to send it back. Too bad!! They returned it and it came back perfect I just had my first fitting there and the seamstress was very nice and helpful.

For my BMs dresses I wanted a color and fabric that the dress I loved didn't come in. They contacted the designer who told them they could make the dress in the color/fabric I wanted for a small upcharge. Because of that, there was a bit of a mix up in getting all the orders correct, but once they got it right, all went smoothly. One BM has gone for her fitting with no problems. The others haven't gone yet or are going elsewhere because of travel distance.

The place is very run down and the owner is very pushy - tries to get you to buy everything under the sun from him. (But his daughter works there and helped us in the BM dept and was super friendly and helpful). If you can get past that, they have good prices and a very big selection. If you go there and are not happy with the person helping you, let them know. Some of the women there definitely have attitudes, but not all of them. Some are very friendly and nice.

They say they match anyones price but they dont. I found a dress there but found it cheaper somewhere else and the old man owner was really nasty telling me they didnt offer it at that price. I ordered it elsewhere!

Re: The Wedding Center of Commack

the reviews are mixed.

I went there in the very early stages of my planning, and was treated like sh!t. Also, I've heard of some pretty negative reviews as well.

But my cousin had a fantastic experience there, and had so many wonderful things to say about them.

So if I were you, i'd just go and check it out. See how your treated, and if you find something you like then make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing from them.

Good Luck

I bought my dress there and had it altered there which wasnt a problem I came in quick and my alterations were great the only problem that I had was when i went to pay for alteration and the owner was there and called me a liar about a credit and then charged me more for the alterations because he certain things werent included but if you by a dress pay for it and get it out of there.

Re: The Wedding Center of Commack

I just went there this afternoon to look at BM dresses for the fist time. It was like pulling teeth. I waited 5 mins while 4 women just sat there chit chatting about nothing never asking me if I needed help and I was standing smack in front of them, waiting. When I asked for a specific dress all I got was 'its over there' and a point in the right direction. I was hoping for a little bit more help. The sales woman who was 'helping' me kept walking away as if she didn't care and just let me look on my own. I knew what I wanted so I was annoyed that after she finally pulled it she walked away so I couldn't ask any questions. I had to keep going back to the desk area and wait again so I could ask questions or ask to see a different dress by a different designer.

Upstairs in bridal it was totally different, the woman who helped me was extremely nice and willing to help.

If I do buy there I don't plan on getting alterations done there at all. Now that I know what their prices are for the dresses I like I want to see if they really are the cheapest around or if I can find them cheaper elsewhere where the staff is a little more helpful.

The customer service is poor but the prices are good.

We got our dresses there for my FSIL weddng and we got them on time and they were cheap, but as someone else said, you walk in and they look at you as if they are do you a favor.

My advice, if you have a lot of time and you order dresses early go for it, that way if they mess up you have plenty of time to fix the problem

i think it's total luck of the draw.. for what it's worth, i had a bad experience there too.

I took a train out to LI to try on one specific dress at the Wedding Center, and it turned out they'd lied to me about having it.

I had issues there too.

I went and tried on wedding dresses there with my sisters. The woman that was 'helping' me kept walking away and my sisters were the ones getting me into each dress. When this woman was 'helping' she was pulling dresses that I clearly stated that I didn't want any beading...She kept bringing them anyway!

Then they tried to rip me off (dress kept changing in price) and that is where I drew the line and went somewhere else.

Stay far away!

Wow...more negative than positive reviews! I really think the owner is obnoxious!!!

I actually just emailed Bridal Reflections in Carle Place with a list of dresses I am hoping they carry the samples for, so fingers crossed! I am also excited to go to Renate's in Lindenhurst. I have called their twice and the woman I spoke with was nothing but wonderful on the phone!

Has anyone ever found a dress they love in a store but found/ordered it online for cheaper???

Never order a dress online, you have no idea if it's genuine. Unless you are ordering it from a dress maker or shop owner. I was considering doing a photo shoot on my honeymoon with a cheaper dress ordered online but I wouldn't do that for my main dress. I don't think I'm doing that anymore but I was thinking of it.

I heard the situation with Wedding Center is that they are a discount store and not a preferred retailer for a lot of these dresses. They tend to carry older styles ( I think) I could be wrong but this is what I heard.

Renates is great my friend ordered her dress there. I've been there in the past also for other weddings. They don't have a huge selection of bridal gowns though. Go to the city and try on a bunch of dresses, if you find one you love you can order it locally usually for less.

What designers do you like?
