THE WORST & BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.

Original post by Miblove

I have some TERRIBLE news to tell everyone about.

Sunday, 3/9 was my shower - I knew about it....started at 430pm.

Well, Sunday morning my dog (who we only had for about 7 months) got out of the yard and was hit by a car and died.

We got a knock on our door from the kids across the street, saying Max just got hit...we rushed down the road (busy street) and there he was laying in the middle of the road...still alive, but barely.

We put him on a board & just 30 seconds in the car, he passed away in my arms.

My fh and I are completely devastated. We lost our first son...it's so quiet in the house. We have been crying non-stop. My fh buried him with his father yesterday.

I'm still in shock this happened....and on the day of my shower...I'm attaching a pic of him.

He was my little baby - followed me everywhere. Even when I was on the computer - see pic.

I am *so* so so sorry to hear about this.....I know how devastating this is.....my first dog just passed away last september (feels like yesterday though)....and we also had a 2nd dog that we adopted (only had him for a few months, a boxer) who got out and was hit while i was on my way to school.

I swore after my 1st dog passed away that I would NEVER EVER do this to myself again....but after realizing how incredibly selfish it was to feel that way, I adopted a rescue dog (actually...long story short, I adopted from a guy that FH used to work with who was a horrible person...used to keep oreo locked up in a cat cage all day!!! and when I went to adopt Oreo, the guy told me IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KEEP HIM, DO HIM A FAVOR AND THROW HIM OFF THE VERRAZZANO!!!!!!

After realizing what a complete a-hole this guy was, I couldn't stand the thought of him being with anyone else. Oreo has been with us ever since and has completely changed the whole grieving process I went through with my first dog. It was so odd---the timing was incredible. Chunky (she was a fatty) passed away in september, and come mid-november I was still destroyed...I got a call from FH about how this guy wanted to give Oreo up, and I just wasn't into it at first...but something clicked and i said eh what the helll....so needless to say, Oreo has been with us ever since....he can be really horrible sometimes (remember when he nearly ripped my nose off the day before my hair trial???) but we have been working as hard as we can with him to get his temper under control. Either way, he is in a safe and VERY loving home. Actually, grandma and grandpa (my parents) are babysitting him until sunday.....i swear they love him more then me.

When you get through the shock phase of it, maybe consider rescuing. Knowing that you SAVED a dogs life in honor of your passed friend may help...it helped me. In the mean time, to you and FH. I am so so so sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss.. I just got this forwarded email.. read on, its so sad, but so nice at the same time:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
