Thiefs disguised as wedding guests steal couple's gifts

(Just thought this would help us all be more aware of our card boxes, bird cages etc...)
By Associated Press, 04/22/02

ERIE, Pa. -- Police are looking for three very unwelcome wedding guests.

Two men and a woman were caught on surveillance tape at an Erie conference center stealing a basket containing wedding cards and money that police estimated at $5,000 to $20,000.

Deepika Segu and Robert Lofgren were in the midst of their 90-minute Indian ceremony on Saturday when the three thieves, dressed as wedding guests, struck, police said.

The couple's friend and wedding planner, Melissa Taylor, said she saw the man who stole the basket but couldn't run fast enough to catch him because she's eight months pregnant.

'It's just instinct. I turned, I saw him. I knew he shouldn't have the basket and I just took off after him,' Taylor said. 'I'm just mad I couldn't waddle fast enough. I used to be pretty quick.'

Another couple ran past Taylor and jumped in the same car with the thief, which police later traced to a rental agency using its New York license plate number.

Taylor said the thefts were just the latest disappointment for the couple. Deepika's custom-made wedding band, which was to be express delivered, didn't arrive in time for the ceremony.

'It was just a shame, beyond any of the money in general, all the little notes really mean more than any cash,' said Taylor, herself recently married.

Very scary...

How could anyone think of doing something so horrible on someone else's happiest day?!?!?! People like this really need to be punished. I hope the police catch the sob's!
As if us brides have anything else to worry about.

Another incident closer to home...

I read in Newsday over the weekend that another pair, dressed as wedding guests, stole the video equipment from a wedding at the Westbury Manor.
While this wasn`t the B&G's presents or anything personally of theirs, and I`m sure the company has insurance, it`s still so upsetting to the couple that this happened to.

Not sure if they were caught, but the pair have apparently done the same thing in Suffolk and Queens....

An incident after my wedding, please read

I didn't want to share this info. with any brides because I was afraid they would get a little scared but now that we are on the topic here is my story........ I was married 2/16/02 in atlantic beach. At the end of the night there were three limos leaving. My husband and I were in one, family from upstate in another, and stephen's brother from Levitown in another. The limo going back to Levittown was followed home and four guys tried to break into the house. They thought that they were the bride and groom since his brother was in a tuxedo. They one year old baby was upstairs with the babysitter. It was very frightening. The guys had guns. Stephen's brother who is a cop managed to get his gun and fired it. They ran. Fingerprints were removed from the door but they were still never found. We do not know if the limo was followed some where from Atlantic Beach to Levittown or if they were followed starting in Atlantic Beach. We will never know what really happened. The reception hall was called and they said this has never happened before but I have good reason to believe that it has. Just a word of advice....... please be careful. Maybe have another family member that is not in a limo take the gifts home. I would never believe that this could happen but I can tell you first hand it can and it does. There are sick people in the world. If it had been us followed home who knows what would have happened. I am sorry it happened to them but it would have been worse had it been us.

egreen3792...

What a horrible experience. I'm glad everyone was ok.
Thank you for sharing your story with us.

bondebride, are you ok?

what a strange message? not only am I trying to figure out why it would be a good thing to smell your neighbors gas through an open window, but trying to figure out why you are being so offensive toward someone who has had a horrible thing done to them, as well as to anyone who may happen to live in levittown?? Or maybe this is a private joke between you two? I hope the latter, because I'd hate to think that we have to deal with such meanness on this board?

bondebride, are you kidding me?

where do you live that you think you are better than anyone?

I agree, i didnt understand that message at all.

I'm confused...

What are you guys talking about - I don't see any post here about Levittown...am I missing something?

jpsgirl Posted:

bondebride, are you ok?

i went back to find the message and couldn't, usually you can if you go to the first post that is showing and click on the message it is in response to and then navigate around. Maybe they deleted it. Someone had written about a wedding limo being followed home to Levittown in an attempted robbery - to warn other brides, and blondebride weirdly responded with some very tasteless comments about Levittown.

Blondebride seems to me to not be so bright or even nice, if you read some of the other postings she has left re: other things. She sounds like she has a difficult life and/or a few screws lose.

Thanks for filling me in...

I thought I was losing it for a minute...I kept reading all the posts in this thread, and it didn't make sense - now it does! Thanks!

What the heck happened? Did she remove her post or something. I read this original post a few days back but I didn't see al this going one. Although I have noticed a few hostile messages lately. What's going on here ?

Thanks for filling me in...

I never saw it....... what did she say?

BlondeBride Posted:

bondebride, are you ok?

The reason for this MESSAGE is the fact that when I was renting for 6 weeks in Levittown My neighbors knew EXACTLY when I showered..when I got home..always commenting on how late I got back from work..ALways asking whom who was..I could not breath or cough without a bowl of soup being sent over..Sorry Levittown but you neighbors ruined my opionion (misspelled) of you.

Well Thank You but not all of us were born with a silver spoon in our mouth..As explained in my earlier posting..Levvitown is one place I do not reccomend for anyone to live in unless your a nosey person

This is really insulting to anyone who lives in Levittown and I can't believe you would think that everyone in Levittown is nosy. There are nosy people everywhere in LI, in every single town and within your own block. Where have you been the last upteen years?? Just because you had a bad experience with your neighbors does not give you the right to judge others based on your neighbors behavior. That is a real ignorant thing to say and I have no patience for ridiculous remarks like that. As you can see plenty of other ladies on this board don't either!

blondebride, seriously, quit while you're ahead. It seems you've made some friends on this board and you are going to alienate most of them with this ignorance. You are totally wrong for voicing this opinion, insulting where someone or someones family lives is wrong no matter how you look at it. If I were you I would just apologize and move on, really.
