Thin, fine hair -- help???

I am looking for hairdo's, preferrably up-do's that would work well and hold with thin, fine hair. A lot of the pictures I have seen and picked out, my hairdresser feels may not hold due to my hair type. Anyone else in the same boat?? Any suggestions, or pics would be great !! Thanks

Re: Thin, fine hair -- help???

I have thin, fine hair too, but my hair holds in any updo that's done correctly. As long as the stylist puts a tons of pins in as their going along, and then set it with hairspray, I'm good to go!

Has your hair stayed in any recent updo, or is it just this stylist telling you this?

Re: Thin, fine hair -- help???

I agree with Teri, my hair is very fine too and I had my hair done for my girlfriend's wedding in a french twist (it was curled before) and it stayed from about 8 am to 1 am the next morning, I had a TON of bobby pins in there (no joke, probably about 35).

Re: Thin, fine hair -- help???

If you want an updo, it will hold better if your hair is not extra clean. I'm sure this holds even more true for fine hair. Wash and dry it the day before you are having the updo done. Your stylist should set your hair first with a setting lotion or hairspray. I had probably 50+ pins in my hair (it's long). With a lot of spray, it will hold.

Re: Thin, fine hair -- help???

What sort of style are you going for - post a photo and we can give you some more specific advice.

PS: If you ENOUGH hair, a stylish should be able to do pretty much anything. Its not so much about being thick or thin but more about volume and length.

Re: Thin, fine hair -- help???

Thanks all for replying. I wish I know how to post pics, but I am really computer illerate. I am looking for an up-do with curls in the back like in a bun. Not the old style bun, the new ones that look like it is all seperate curls going into it. Does that descrive it o.k.?

Re: Thin, fine hair -- help???

I know my hair is really thin. All hairdresser's say I have baby fine hair. I can't hold a pony tail holder with out hairspray...never mind barrettes...they slide rightout!

Sometimes they have to try twice but they usually get it done. I have had many, many different updos. I agree with Teri - lots of hairspray and pins...I can't see it not working unless your hair is too short for the style.

Re: Thin, fine hair -- help???

I have a lot of hair and it's a bit thin IMO. I got a hairpiece.
My girlfriend does hair here in Manhattan and surprisingly enough, when I mentioned that I bought one because it looked 'fun' she said she was going to recommend that I buy one in order to make life easier.
I don't like the idea of all that gel and all those bobby pins...if you can get a good color match, I'd recommend it...especially because it sounds like you want a loose, curly updo.

Re: Thin, fine hair -- help???

I have baby fine thin hair as well..
I also bought a hair piece.
It's like a jaw clip with a pretty good amount of my color hair. I makes my hair look nice and full.
I'm wearing it half up and half down
