Things to ask & look for when picking a dress and store

I was wondering if any of the BTDT brides would have any words of advise, things to look for, things to ask about and watch out for suggestions for brides that are starting to look for dresses. I'm going shopping for the 1st time on Saturday and I have appts at 2 salons. Is there anything I should be asking the sales people? Things that I should make sure are explained beforehand?

Thanks ladies!

- I would always try and see if you can negotiate the price of the dress. even ask if they price match - you may find the dress cheaper in another store but would really like to order it through them - see if they can work something out.

- see if they offer a discount if you order your bridesmaid dresses from them as well. Someplaces may even give a discount on the BM dresses and your dress since they are getting all that business.

- Ask them if they do in-house alterations and ask about the whole alteration process.

- ask how long it would take for the dress to come in.

- in lieu of the above, if the dress comes in earlier than when you want to go in for your first fitting, see if they would hold the dress in the store for you. Some places may not like the dress sitting in the shop taking up space.

- I would let them know your budget up front. I would fear trying on a dress that is over my budget , falling in love with it, and then not being able to get it.

ITA, but, I was in a store that I knew charged more than other shops, and had the same dresses as others, so I actually told them a bit higher than my budget, so that I didn't miss out on seeing anything! So it's good to look up some info about the stores on here before you go for that reason, too!
