Thinking of changing the date of my wedding!
I have been thinking of having a New Years Eve wedding so 12/31/05 instead of 06/25/06. My FH boss had a New Years wedding last year, and it was great. My friends love the idea, but my mom is not so sure. Help me decide, what do you all think??????????????????

I'm so jealous! After I booked my wedding, I started thinking about how much fun a New Years eve wedding would be. No one ever has good plans for New Years. You should definitely look into it!

Re: Thinking of changing the date of my wedding!
Those are two totally different dates. One is in the summer and one is in the winter. Did you think about prices?? Are they more expensive for a New Years wedding??? I like the idea of a winter wedding. I'd check it out.

The problem is that me FH is going to be a teacher and we would have to wait till June to go on our Hawaii honeymoon. Where do you take pictures in Dec?

Most places decorate for christmas, so they might have trees still up and stuff

Re: Thinking of changing the date of my wedding!
pros and cons...the date is a lot of fun and decorations would be up, just beautiful, but the weather could possibly be bad and a problem IF you have a lot of OOT guests...but otherwise go for it! i'd love to go to wedding for NY's!

Re: Thinking of changing the date of my wedding!
It is a great idea but are you ready to have your wedding 6 months earlier?? Do you have the $$ available earlier to you? Also you must take into consideration the price at yuor hall. The weather is an important thing but that is something you can't control. If you have a lot of OT guest, it might not be a great idea just considering weather & right after the holidays....

I'd love to have a NYE wedding, have you made lots of plans already- just think of everything you'd have to do to switch the date. Keep in mind you were planning a warm weather celebration and now you're thinking about switching it to the winter.

Re: Thinking of changing the date of my wedding!
There are a few things you have to consider:1 - daylight time for pics
2 - location for pics and whether or not to consider doing outdoor pics
3 - OOT guests, family, and/or BP -- will travel & lodging be an issue during that hectic time of year.
If none of these pose major obstacles for you, then go for it.
ETA: I moved my wedding up by 7 mos from 4/30/2005 to 10/9/2004 with a little less than a year to go and had no problems whatsoever... not even rescheduling the vendors I had already booked.

Re: Thinking of changing the date of my wedding!
I actually thought the same thing a while back a few REALLY BIG things to consider...Most halls will charge your more and the min. will go up. I know my hall does both!
Only b/c alot of halls can book the room to big corporate parties and other huge new years events.
eta. My mother also forbid me to do this b/c of all the drunk drivers out on the road that night. She didnt want us having our family and friends driving home and if something happened we would feel guilty about it forever and have bad memories of the wedding.

Re: Thinking of changing the date of my wedding!
I am having a New Years Eve wedding, 12/31/05 so if you can afford to have it that much sooner then you originally planned I would say go for it.So far everyone loves the idea. We really wanted to do something different because two of our closest friends are getting married a few months before we are and we wanted our wedding to be unique.
The prices for vendors were a little more though. Leonards charged more because they have to pay the waitstaff holiday pay. The Photographer also charged us more because it is holiday but they gave us more because of the extra money we are spending (doubled the size of out albums, and increased the size of parents albums for examle). The DJ, florist and limo companies have on the other hand not charged us any more than they would for a wedding not on a holiday.
The hall and church will both still be decorated for Christmas so even though it will be cold out we arent worried about not having many outdoor pictures. This is also saving us money because not we dont need to get flower arrangements for the Church.
The most difficult part was finding vendors more specifically reception halls who were not already booked because as they explained to us, many companies have contracts with them for 3 or four years for their own corporate parties. This was the main problem we had with finding a hall.
If you have any questons feel free to Fm me.

I think it sounds great. Your right when it comes to no one really has anything to do on New Years Eve. Go for it.
