this 1 takes the cake....

Original post by fall2005bride

it's no secret that I do not get along with my FIL's and vice versa...

they have nothing to do with the wedding, have not been supportive of us since we got engaged, didn't come to our engagement party, even after they RSVP'd with a yes...

this takes the cake though.,..

FH told me that he saw our wedding invitation in his mother and step dads bedroom......

ready.....

ripped up into little pieces and thrown out in the garbage!!!

do we say something, ignore it...

I'm at a loss.... how do we handle this very disrespective gesture by them..

any advice would be appreciated

This is just aweful! I am sooooo sorry. I would definatly let your FH handle it and talk to her. Better to air it out now than possibly right before or worse, at the wedding!

ok, first of all I'm so sorry that you have to deal with such childish behavior!!!!

there are multiple ways of dealing with this.

1. do nothing - you know they're difficult, talking to them wont do much to change them (and the invite - while rudely torn up, was in their bedroom - which is a private room) they could get angry at FH that he was in their bedroom to begin with, (I dont know about this - just a thought)

2. talk to them like adults - which assumes that they are in fact, adults - and given the tantrum like invite disposal, they are acting like children. I would suggest having a general conversation about the upcoming marriage and how they feel about it, how you feel about them, etc.

3. Go back into their bedroom, take the ripped up invite - paste it back together and mail it back to them. . . they'll feel very embarrassed, of course - but score one for you for craftiness!

if number 3 is not possible. . .

4. MAIL THEM ANOTHER INVITE, with a note that you heard that the previous invite somehow got destroyed. It's sort of a 'You wanna play? lets play' type move, but heck - it's an option.

wow...that's absolutely crazy. I'm shocked that parents can be so unsupportive of their child, especially in something that's so major and is supposed to be one of the happiest moments of their life.

That is terrible. for you and FH.

I would be afraid that they would show up and somehow make a scene on your wedding day. Let us know what you decide!

That is utterly disgusting.......I am sooooo sorry to hear this.

The only advice I gan give is to talk to them. I know that they upset you both alot, but I think the most upsetting thing to your FH is that his mother will not be at the wedding. I think if the 4 of you sit down an calmly talk about your differences, maybe things can be worked out. Give it one more shot (that is, if your FH wants to).
