this compromise stuff is hard!

this compromise stuff is hard!

well, not always so hard but in the case of the Honeymoon, I am going to concede and give up on Hawaii.

FH doesnt want to travel for that long on a plane nor does he want to blow 7 -10k on the trip. *sigh*

I have wonderful options in the Caribbean in mind, but I still have a small part that really wants Hawaii. I know we will have fun anywhere, and there are SO MANY gorgeous places in the Carib, but I am still somewhat sad.

I don't blame you I was a little disheartened when I had to give up my dreams of a Tahiti and other islands HM. Have you tried talking to a TA to see if you can find a better price on Hawaii?

You can definitely still have a wonderful time closer to home in the caribbean! we ultimately decided on Antigua and said we will do Tahiti at some point for an anniversary.

well that's what I said to him.... I am going to Hawaii at some point in my life! The real issue besides money is the travel time and the fact that AT MOST we would get 8-9 days over there which is almost too short to spend all that money.

I kind of am happy to fly a few hours and be at our HM destination, once I find it. I know that we can squeeze in 9-10 days since it's more local, and a bit cheaper.

FH and I went to Hawaii last year (where we got engaged). It can be expensive, but you can also do it affordable! Maybe if you do a smaller HM you can go to Hawaii for your 1 year anniversary (think - time to save up $$ )

We flew direct from Newark to Honolulu and it was about 11 hours, but FH and I had soo much fun together watching movies and stuff. You can take a crusie from Honolulu on NCL and see a bunch of islands and the cruise is pretty affordable. How's that for a compromise - small HM and big 1 year anniversary trip??

boo that is a bummer but i'm sure one day you will get to go to Hawaii! I think Compromise is the biggest lesson in this whole process really.

Their have been a few things i really wanted but i needed to give up due to budget. Its disappointing but in the end no matter what we do it will all be wonderful I'm sure!

Hawaii will always be there but I'm sorry you have to give up your dream honeymoon. You know you're going to have a blast no matter where you go though!

The cruise was on my radar for WEEKS but then I realized I wanted more time on Maui and Kuai, or Oahu, if we went. The cruise doesnt give enough time to really explore etc and the excursions would be $$.

The HM wont be cheap even in the Carib, bc I am going to get a room that rocks! lol

I also want to do a Hawaii honeymoon, but I really don't know if it will happen for us. I know there are beautiful places in the Caribbean that we can choose from, but Hawaii has always been my dream I know how you feel!

Yeah Hawaii is super expensive. You could always do a group trip out there. My friend goes to maui for 2 weeks and it costs about 2-4K with food, air fare, car rental, and stay. Of course that is because people are splitting costs.

I agree with the suggestion of going for an anniversary later on. This way, it's not like a dead dream but instead just a postponed one!

You are lucky that at least your FH has some minor interest (finances aside) in travelling to your dream destination--- my dream HM would be the Greek islands. FH says he has 'no interest' in Greece. Like... who has no interest in Greece?? lol

well, FH is a social studies teacher and tends to think we dont need to visit any country that HATES Americans. Sooooo I am not dealing with any easy traveler, if you can imagine.

lol!

MINE IS TOO!! How funny! Although he has never really traveled outside the country so I am not sure he has any real insight into how bad the anti-American sentiment can be in some places. But funny that both our future hubbies are social studies teachers! Mine just found out how many of his kids passed (or didn't pass....) their regents... oof. Poor guy. lol

I agree with the other girls. You can always tell FH that you'd like to go for an anniversary trip (1yr, 5yr, etc). This way your dream of going is only postponed.

What about Turks & Caicos in the Caribbean? It's supposed to be beautiful. Also, Bermuda (not exactly Caribbean), St. Maarten, St. Thomas are all close by and gorgeous places to visit.

There are also plenty of excursions if you go to Cabo San Lucas / Riviera Maya. Flights there are a lot closer and you can def. find some great all-inclusives.

Yes, I have a short list of places that I will research further including Cabo, Turks and Caicos, Aruba/Curacao, and the Virgin Islands.

It will be fun and fabulous, and we can stay longer than if we went to Hawaii. I am still going to force an anniversary trip to Hawaii in the future though!

You can def book Hawaii for under $7K .... just don't go as extravagant... you'll still have an amazing vacation & honeymoon!! AND Still get Hawaii which is what you wanted.

Hope that helps!
