This hasn't happened to me but....

What would you girls do if your FH told you that you had to wait for the wedding another year b/c finances were tight and you had already started planning everything?

I guess I would be ok with it, more time to plan and save!!!!!
Like my corny FI says, he considers us married when we got engaged!

Depends on HOW tight the finances were. I believe you can make it work if you are willing to make some sacrifices. When FH and I first got engaged in 2003, I wanted a Sept 04 wedding soooo bad but he was like no way can we afford it by then, so we set our date for 2005.

About half way through, we both decided we didn't want to wait that long, so we did everything we could to move it up and we got married in Oct 2004 and I am SOOOO glad we did. Life is too short to wait to get married if you don't have to. Of course, if it's impossible, then you have to accept that. But I fought hard to convince FH that we could do it sooner than later and we did. As it was, we were still engaged 18 months before we actually tied the knot... definitely long enough.

we say that all the time also..just making it offical..

as for as money is concerned... how are you gonna have a dream wedding if you can't pay for it? money is an issue of the majoirty of the ppl at LIW....if it doesn't work out..move it back. Me and FW are on tightest budget ever (not that tight cause i'm eating mcdonalds) since we first meet each other 7 yrs ago and had no money. your still getting married....

or

do you think that means somthing esle?

Hmmmm? If nothing was booked and no deposits had been left, that would be fine.

However, if deposits would be lost (unable to get the date for the following year) I'd be upset. Depending on how tight finances really are, waiting would be the best option rather than using credit cards or taking out loans.

This all assumes FI is not backing out and just really wants to wait so the wedding is not a financial strain.

I would get married at City Hall or something like that and have the big bash a year later.

Kind of happened to me. I wanted to get married at the end of the summer of 2005. FH wanted to get rid of some debt before running into wedding expenses. We taalked it out and I gave in, realizing that it was only like 8 months - and I could use that time to educate myself as to what I really want - and try to do things at a more reasonable pace. Plus, the money we'll be able to save in those 8 months will pay for a few vendors!
