This is kinda serious...

Original post by MrsSoto

I hope this doesnt get put on NWR cuz noone reads it but anyway...

I know a lot of us has said that our Fh snores but mine seriously snores extremely extremely bad and after looking up all the symptoms of Sleep Apnia, I am 100% sure he must have it. I wont go into all the symptoms here but anyway a couple of them include really terrible snoring and stopping breathing for a couple of minutes while you are asleep!! I cant guarantee this happens to him but almost positive because he awakens himself choking which they say is a sign of the not breathing...

So, have any of you girls had any experience with Sleep Apnia, your FHs or anyone. It could be very serious and someone could potentially die from it. I am just going to take him to the doctor even though he is refusing- I am seriously scared for him. He is so hard headed about the doctor

PS- I havent been sleeping in the same bad recently because I just cant fall asleep due to the piercing noises coming from him and its sad that we cant be in the same bed and we are just starting our lives together.

if he plans to do the sleep study you can go to your regular doctor who will give you a referral to a sleep center.

That would work except he doesnt have a regular doctor since he hasnt gone to one since who knows when (never since weve been together at least)...maybe I will call my doctor. Thanks.

Mine snores horribly too and we sometimes don't sleep in the same bed either But the arrangement is that I wake him up and he moves when I can't take it anymore.

ETA: we also think mine has sleep apnea and he's been saying that he'll go to sleep clinic after busy season, but I think he'd rather ignore the problem! I wish he would get it checked out!

Lorin, my Husband snores loudly; He was tested for sleep apnea at a local sleep center, and was said not to have it!!! The experience was not a bad one. Mary MOB

You have FM!
I have Sleep Apnea, I am not seriously overweight (could stand to lose a few, though) and I'm a woman - not the typical candidate for the disease.

Anyway, tell your FH the 'machine' that I sleep with now is like night and day compared to the fog I was living my life in before getting proper rest!

DH has severe sleep apnea. he has gone for the overnight tests in the sleep disorder part of the hospital. he is constantly exhausted, his snoring its out of control.
bring your FH to the dr. he will likely also need to take this sleep test, where they monitor his breathing and sleeping. DH uses a CPAP machine, that's what everyone is referring to. Google it, it will go into more detail. good luck...

He should go see a sleep specialist. I have sleep apnea and they have a machine that you use at night so that you dont snore and dont stop breathing. it like forces you to breathe.

I am an MD. Sleep apnea is a serious condition as you are well aware. Basically the person can stop breathing hundreds of times during the night. They are typically exausted all the time as they are esentially deprived of deep sleep. Sleep Apnea is strongly linked to obesity and weight loss is one of the treatments. Alternatively, you can use machines like CPAP to provide a continuous flow of oxygen and pressure to keep the airway open. Good luck.

Re: This is kinda serious...

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 8 years ago....my doctor is found in the ProHealth Facility in Lake Success and she sent me to the Sleep Center in Manhasset. They have you go overnight, they put a whole bunch of monitors hooked up to you and they test you for the night. When the result come back it tells you how many times do you stop breathing during a period of time. I then had to go back and get what is called CPap (I think that is what it is called) it is a mask that they custom fit for you and comes with a machine that you can carry in a backpack for travel.

I had used that machine for a few months but then decided to leave it coz I like sleeping on my side and the mask must stay on a specific spot if not, you won't get any oxygen and you will end up waking up. There are other treatments as well, I have heard getting your tonsils removed, but sometimes they don't work.
