This is kinda serious...

This is kinda serious...

I hope this doesnt get put on NWR cuz noone reads it but anyway...

I know a lot of us has said that our Fh snores but mine seriously snores extremely extremely bad and after looking up all the symptoms of Sleep Apnia, I am 100% sure he must have it. I wont go into all the symptoms here but anyway a couple of them include really terrible snoring and stopping breathing for a couple of minutes while you are asleep!! I cant guarantee this happens to him but almost positive because he awakens himself choking which they say is a sign of the not breathing...

So, have any of you girls had any experience with Sleep Apnia, your FHs or anyone. It could be very serious and someone could potentially die from it. I am just going to take him to the doctor even though he is refusing- I am seriously scared for him. He is so hard headed about the doctor

PS- I havent been sleeping in the same bad recently because I just cant fall asleep due to the piercing noises coming from him and its sad that we cant be in the same bed and we are just starting our lives together.

I wouldn't definetly insist he see a doctor because that is not a joke and could be potentially dangerous for him. Good luck

No never touched a cigarette in his life.

I am totally dragging him, you are righttt...who gives a shtt if he is mad...I just thought if you girls had any experiences with Sleep Apnia, I could share with him good outcomes, what to expect, etc. so he will be more open to it (yeah rite, lol)

Don't take this the wrong way, but is your FH heavy? I ask because sometimes heavier people tend to snore more. My FH used to snore SO loud, it kept me up all night. He has recently lost 30 pounds and losing more and he doesn't snore anymore!!! It is amazing.

If he doesn't need to lose any weight, I think he should definitely see a dr. My step dad did and they did a study on her where they recorded his sleeping one night and they found that he did have Sleep Apnia.

I was going to the say the same thing but was afraid of being offensive. My friend had the same issue and she did a sleep study for a few days. They gave her some tips on food to stay away from and trying not to sleep on her back and to also work on losing weight. Her family definetly notices a change. And also make sure he is getting enough sleep because no matter what the doctor does if your FH is still not sleeping enough, the snoring will continue

Re: This is kinda serious...

I know a couple of people who have it. They need to sleep with breathing masks on every night. The masks can be loud or distracting at first...mainly to the person sleeping next to them. It almost makes them sound like Darth Vader...seriously. It is a very serious condition and can lead to other health risks. I hope he does not have it, but if he does, an adjustment to diet, sleeping hours and excercise can really help.

my DH has sleep apnea. He went for a sleep study overnite for the diagnosis and is now using a CPAP machine which forces air into his nose. This helps keep him breathing thru the nite and he can't snore with it on.

they use several different kinds of nose pieces so you try them all to see which is most comfortable. it takes a little to get used to sleeping with it on and having a tube going to the machine for the air but he says he does sleep much better and you can see the results during the day - - he doesn't nod off in the late afternoon, evening and has more energy.

so definitely have him go to the doctor to check. and believe it - - no more snores with the machine. to me the way DH made such loud noises I wouldn't believe they could stop if I didn't see it myself.

one of FH's best friends has it and he has spent many a night at the sleep diagnostic's center until a few months ago they decided that surgery was the best option for him. things have definitely been better since then, i know i dont hear him snoring through the walls when he stays over anymore!!

My dad has sleep apnea.. Everyone's reply was right on. It can be very dangerous if not treating. It can kill someone if they stop breathing long enough. So like you said, drag his butt to the doctor regardless of how mad he is! Good news is that it's easily treated

Re: This is kinda serious...

My FH has severe sleep apnea. He just found out a few months ago. He told his doctor his symptoms and he sent him for a sleep study. He went for 2 sleep studies and now he sleeps with a mask. The mask helps him soooooo much. He really wanted no part of it in the beginning but now we are so used to it that it is just part of our going to bed routine. He actually sleeps now when he uses the mask. He has dreams, which he wasn't before and he is not as tired or cranky. He HATES doctors and everything related to them but he is so glad that he did this because he feels much better now.

I would have your FH go to the doctor. My FH used to snore like that. It was so bad that when he went to AC his friends couldnt sleep and they threw the phonebooks from the hotel room at him and it still didnt stop.

If you would like me FH to talk to yours he can. HTH Good Luck

Your FH will be fine. He should get the mask though. JMO

PS. My FH is not heavy and he has it, so that theory for me is out the window. I know it is more common in heavier people, but FH is far from heavy and he has it.

Re: This is kinda serious...

I've had mild sleep apnea since I was young. I don't snore but I have been told by my mother and FH how they'll hear me suddenly gasp for air - especially when I have a cold and they can hear me breathing heavier and then it stops for about a minute. Scary stuff. Definitely bring him in for a sleep study.

Re: This is kinda serious...

hey girlss, thank you so much for all the responses. I really appreciate it. No, hes not heavy at all, I mean he has that little belly going on, lol, but in really good shape basically and not overweight. I believe he has had this for years...I do know that his really really crazy work hours and not enough sleep contributes (wakes up at 4:30 am every morning) but even when he has gotten enough sleep, its still bad. So, I am calling the doctor Monday morning definately!!...

Any other recommedations for docs...I guess its an ear, nose and throat right?

Oh durr, thats what Barb said, I think rite..
