So...FH and I had basically decided on a DJ and went over to discuss pricing with them. After deciding the package that would work well with us and receiving a $500 'discount', we booked an appt. with them.
We were excited about our quote and basically looking to book with them.
Until someone else brought up the fact to us that they were getting the same DJ company, with a larger package (more bells and whistles) for about $2000 less.......
OMG
Now FH plans on basically confronting the company at our appointment......
what the hell would you do?!

That's ridiculous!!! Your FH should confront them. That is ********. They better do some serious *** kissing and giving you a lot of stuff for a cheaper price.

Re: This is MAJOR....(long vent with ?)
So far my experience is that all of them inflate the prices. I love my photographer but when I first called I got a quote and made an appt. My best friend called the next day because she wanted to join my appt. since she needs to book also and got told much less because she was stnading outside DUET and said she was ready to book. When she told him that she was going with me, he felt like he got caught! He said he had to give me the price he told her and it was $700 less!!! So I def. booked since it was the best quote I had gotten! There are so many DJ's out there that you have the upper hand! Get them down for sure and keep looking so you can really compare. I hired a childhood friend as my DJ. If you want check out Baratinni Productions. He is very reasonable and great to have for your wedding! But there are so many good ones out there that you don't have to overpay.

I would definitely say something and try to get a better deal. What company was it? (that way I know to watch my butt with them, we are shopping for DJ's now).

That's crazy Stephanie... I'd definitely work it into the conversation, but don't let FH get angry or you'll ruin the relationship and that's not gonna get them to agree to give you any more deals. If they say that's the best they can do, then be like, oh,w ell, thanks for your time, we're going to (insert DJ name here) cause they said they'd work with us.
They may just be quoting you higher so that when you go int here they can be like. WELLLL, this is what we can do for you, LOOK WHAT A GREAT VALUE I'M GIVING YOU so you feel like you have to book, KWIM?

That really su cks..and that is a huge amount of $$$. I would go see them, hear what prices they are willing to give you. Then speak to them..they want your business
Me personally if there were not giving me a better price I would not book them. There are so many DJs out there

Re: This is MAJOR....(long vent with ?)
wow that is crazy!! Def be careful about giving out their name on here though, its smart not to. Most vendors (or all) search their names on here daily. I had a hall know what i was going to ask him before i got the whole thing out
' i read that this morning'
i was like UMMMMM.. and we didnt book with him lol

Re: This is MAJOR....(long vent with ?)
I wouldn't directly confront them on it, but if you like them otherwise and would otherwise book them turn around and ask why they're charging so much more than your friend ('who you'd rather not say their name') and that this is an unfair practice. And that you do like them and would like to book, but if this is their business practice and they're not willing to give you the same package as them for at the same price (or your package at an equivalent price) then you're going to walk away and find another DJ.
Look at it as creative bargaining rather than confrontation.

Re: This is MAJOR....(long vent with ?)
I dont think its uncommon for vendors to quote different amounts for the same packages but that is a big difference.
Totally bring it up - but dont get angry b/c like Jamie (i think) said it could ruin the relationship.
It might be one of those things where they want to sit down w/ you at an appointment and work with you so dont jump the gun too much. You haven't signed anything yet so there is still room for you to negotiate.

Re: This is MAJOR....(long vent with ?)
i would def confront and threaten to kill the contract... you might be responsible for a small deposit... but if you show that you're willing to walk away from the deal... they'll usually be more willing to negotiate!
good luck!

Re: This is MAJOR....(long vent with ?)
is it possible to get a copy of the contract that this other person who is getting a cheaper price has? if you can, i would bring a copy with you and question them about it. if you can't, why not question them about it and ask them how they can charge you more for a smaller package and charge them less when they are using more of their resources?
