this is so silly

this is so silly

I am a teacher..

I now have 2 student observers in my classroom. One who will be there everyday/all day for the next 2 weeks - She has such a heavy accent i cant even understand her. The other has been in my room since October and will be I think for at least the rest of this month. She comes tues Thur and Fri. So now i guess 3 days a week for 2 weeks im going to have BOTH of them and have to fit in time for them to teach lessons (and this is NYC). They are observers but they are supposed to teach lessons and get observed

This is ridiculous! Dont get me wrong, i really dont mind having them, its a good experience for me too but, Im not even tenured! haha But im more PO that I dont even get credits to take classes for having them

Wow, you're not supposed to have two! I'm actually a student teacher....that's not fair for you at all!

If I were you, i'd tell your principal, her, or the school she came from that you can't have two student teachers and you can't handle it...at that rate, you'd hardly even get to teach your own students

I actually have the same thing. 1 girl is a student observer who pretty much cumes unannounced and has to observe for about 30 more hours. Then I have 2 girls that come 2 days a week for the whole semester and they have to team teach each time. So basically I am taking about 3 preps a week showing them what to do, and they are taking time away from my instruction. I want to help out, but it is unfair the way the administration placed them. I teach 3rd grade and we have so many pullouts and AIS periods that I never get to do what I need to as it is. I would gladly take 10 students after the tests but right now I am completely overwhelmed!

Wowwww...i'm assuming that both of you don't teach in the city?

wow thats crazy - 3 - thats way too much time away.
thats how we feel. I actually coteach (we are both untenured) and its overwhelming. We have a lot of pull outs too and 10 special ed students. Its hard to have them teach lessons because they do not do them correctly and we have to reteach in anyway or interject. No matter how many times we tell the one girl how to do it, she doesnt get it. and its not really her fault it takes time to get used to it. Or they do regualr lessons like read a book and then do activity - which we never really do in NYC we do reg reading workshop lessons, so it takes away from our reg lessons.

hmmm....that's pretty odd....I hope everything works out! When I was observing, if my teacher told me I couldn't observe her class, i'd just have to find another one...but I know these education programs vary from college to college..

Basically our assistant principal does the placement and that's it. We can't say no!

I had that problem when I was untenured. I just didn't understand why they would put someone in my class to learn from me when I was learning myself.

Now I always say no and not very nicely! They always say 'too bad'.

That's so weird that they're only observers and they have to teach lessons and get observed. When I observed, I sometimes took over teaching when the teacher asked me to, but I never got observed by my professor.

i'm in my masters right now and about every class has 15 hours of observations. first i get a little bored caue how many times can you observe the same thing lol

but anyway...i feel bad gina that you have 2 students in your room that must be tough. but i am doing 2 classes right now that have 15 hours of observations and i don't have my professor observing me in the classroom as well. actually for one class i just observe. for my other course i had to make up a math game and a science activity. they were pretty corney and i felt bad they had nothing to do with the teachers lessons (but that was because we had to do something from our textbook otherwise our professor wouldn't count it as being done).

thankfully the teacher in the classroom i was observing was such a sweetheart. she was so nice with letting me do my assignements and even asked me to come back and visit her and the children. so i am hoping i can do more observations there. but anyway i am sorry for you girls!!!!!!!

im glad you have a good teacher to be working with

We dont mind her teaching lessons and etc.. but its hard to find time in our day. My principal can be so strict about not doing things when scheduled.

In my school you cannot have an observer unless you are tenured.
