This is somewhat wedding related, but I need to vent...
Original post by prncssrachel
I'm going to cry. JT and I have a wedding to go to in the city this Saturday that is BLEEDING US DRY. It is for a friend of mine, but after all is said and done, with my wedding in less than two months, I just cannot afford this. It's black tie, so JT had to go and rent a tux, and the cheapest he could find it was 140 bucks, fine, then there's parking in the city, which is going to be 50 bucks (and that's a discounted rate), then gas, then a gift for them. After all is said and done, this ONE wedding is setting me back over 500 dollars. I'm so upset. I CANNOT afford to spend 500 dollars to go to someone else's wedding. I just can't I'm so upset. I feel so overwhelmed right now.

IMO, if your FH has a nice back suit, he should wear it. there is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a nice black suit to a formal affair

I totally understand how you feel!
We have 3 weddings besides our own in less than 5 months - super stressful! And I totally had the 'holy crap that can't be my bank account' freak out the other day.
But it will come together. And until then - come on here and vent. I've been doing quite a bit of that myself as of late

Totally agree. He could even just buy a tux shirt and tie for like 40 bucks and wear it with his suit.
Have you looked at Men's Warehouse? We got our tuxes there for our wedding. For a basic black tux my dad paid $70 or 80 plus 20 for the shoes.

Why not give a smaller gift? They have to take into account that you have your own wedding coming up, your sister's just passed, and you had to shell out some cash for the event..... I'd give a smaller gift if I were you! There's no reason to go to the poor house for someone else's wedding.
Or, if see what they have on their registry that is affordable, if you feel bad giving a smaller money gift. Probably that is what I would do.

This topic has been discussed here before. When someone says 'black tie'... you are really supposed to get a tux. A black suit doesn't cover it IMO.
Yeah it may work with some people and they won't notice it if you just get a black suit.
But do you really want the possibility of your FH to be the 'only schmoe' at the wedding without a tux on?

you can go buy a tux at syms in Westbury for 99.00. My husband did that when we had a black tie wedding last summer.

another option is to take the train into the city this way you dont have to pay for parking, and black tie option doesnt mean you have to wear a tuxedo. JT can wear a nice black suit and get away with it. I doubt everyone at this wedding will be in a tuxedo. Mine was black tie and people wore suits, my uncle even wore a turtleneck with black slacks.

Since your weddings are so close together is there any way that you both could agree on not giving each other a gift? Just a thought...
this is what me and my other freind did and our weddings are 6 months apart it was the best decision ever!!!!
