How many of you do not get along with your MIL's. If anyone needs to vent this is your chance.

I am sure many willl reply to this one!
Overall, I love my FMIL. She is a good person, but she has her moments. And when she gets FH upset or aggitated, it's upsets me.
She has not meddled in our plans...yet. Key word...YET!
When FH's brother was married this past May, she compared EVERYTHING to FH's sister's wedding, which was 4 yrs ago!
But as I said, overall, I love her.

My FMIL is great too but can be a nag sometimes to my FH. do this do that do this get this, she seems so lazy sometimes.
She is a great to and is such a help with everything.
But sometimes FMIL can have smart mouths.

Mine passed about 5 years ago but she was great! We used to go shopping together and that's just when me and the FH were just dating. I get along great with his Dad too for which I am very lucky!

Re: This might be a weird topic but..........
My FMIL has been a nightmare about the wedding. As it is drawing nearer I see that it's because she is terrified of loosing her son. But really there is no need for her to be the way she is. Everything I do is compared to 'her day.' I swear if I hear those two words again I am going to scream. Everything she had/has control over (engagement party and rehearsal dinner) have to be done the way she wants without any concern for others.
Perfect example. The rehearsal dinner has to been in Brooklyn by her. Mind you she lives in Bensonhurst. Our church is in BAYSIDE. The rehearsal is at 7 so we won't be eating dinner until 9 or 9:30. Mind you she is the ONLY person who lives in Bensonhurst. FH and I live in Kew Gardens and most others live in Queens too. She had the never to ask us to make the rehearsal earlier. HELLO people have to work!!
Ugh
Aren't you glad you asked?
I'm editing to mention that I am very thankful to have her volunteer to throw us our engagement party and rehersal dinner. I don't want to seem ungrateful. But I don't understand why she can't see it as something she is 'giving' us instead of her throwing her own party. She actually calls it that. Her party!!

Re: This might be a weird topic but..........
i don't get along with mine - she is nice and tries hard but is so afraid of loosing her son that she pushes me away
she also acts very immature - she is highly educated but talks like a baby - she calls her husband dad all the time and not when she is talking to her son - she also call my parents mom and dad when she knows their names and that is not respectful
she is very backwards - does whatever her FFIL does - she does not have a real identity without him - which is the complete opposite of my parents
it is hard plus they live in the middle of nowhere PA near West Viriginia - it is so boring down there

I love my MIL but she definitley has her monets. She has the habit of saying things without speaking- I call it mind-to-mouth syndrome (DH suffers from it too)

Re: This might be a weird topic but..........
during preparing for our wedding, my MIL pretty much dictated what our next steps are or should be. i'm chinese born in america (same w hub) and our parents were born in china so plenty of old world traditions and modern day america's gonna clash here. TRADITIONALLY speaking (btw, i hate that word now - tradition), the groom's parents hold all the say so. if she were to ask me nicely maybe i would consider it but since she basically told me to do things her way... that was it! i've tried so hard to let her have her way since we met to a certain extent, of course, but she's taken that gesture and threw it out the door. argh! i cannot stand that wretched old woman. she even goes out of her way to bad mouth my family! i just don't get it. she's just plain old bitter to the bone. ARGH!!!!

Re: This might be a weird topic but..........
Mine is so afraid of losing her son, that she alienates me in the process. My FIL's are divorced and my FMIL treats my FH like her 'pseudo husband' rather than a son. She has not taken any interest in our wedding at all...in the past when I've tried to include her in things, she never has anything positive to say, so I don't offer anymore. Recently, she asked my FH why we don't tell her anything and he came out and said 'Well, we didn't think you were that interested.' Now, suddenly she wants to be a part of everything! Hello!!! We've been engaged since July 2003 and only now do you think you should be involved!! As you can see, this is a very sore subject with me!

It may seem like they can get in the way sometimes but, sometimes you have to take the bad with the good. My FH's mother passed away a little over a year ago. I have known my FH for years so I was close with his mother. I wish she could be here with us helping to plan the wedding, buying our house etc. even if she got in the way I would appreciate it rather than not having her!! Does that make any sense or am I just rambling?

laughinlala,
i'm sorry that your husband's mother passed away and i'm really happy that you two did get along with each other but some of us are dealing with a different kind of breed. My MIL will notice only the bad in anything. she'll drill it in until something's changed for her benefit. she's purely bitter. i think i need a hug....

Sorry to hear that I do understand where you are all coming from however, because I have other people doing similar things to me it just happens to not be my FMIL!!

Wow, I really feel for you ladies. I hope I never have to go through that.
When my cousin started dating his current wife, his parents (my aunt and uncle who are old school Italians) did not like her because she lived on her own and not with her parents. They bad mouthed her all the time UNTIL they found out she came from $$$$. It's such a shame how people really are.

I am SO lucky, b/c my FMIL is awesome, so completely and utterly awesome. She is very supportive of everything I do (even more so than my own parents, lol) and never ever meddles in our personal business. She is more like a friend to me than anything else. If you were to ask this same question to my fiance, however, you'd get a much different answer... he doesn't get along with my mom very well!
