It is felted. Is that the same as boiled?

I think that it might be the same thing. With boiled wool you knit the garment a lot larger than you want it to be and then you shrink it in the washer/dryer. I don't remember the exact procedure. I have never made anything this way. But my mother is making a bag and she described the process to me. She hasn't finished it yet, because she had to order the color that she wants to use for trim. (She has been knitting since she was in grade school and always has a number of projects going at once- I am the same way. I can never work on just one.)

cool, very nice. I just bought felting needles yesterday since I don't have a washer thats capable of felting.

as far as I know (still trying to find clear instructions) you just poke the piece with this knob that has needles in it. I got it from ACMoore (appx $15). It has needles you screw into a wood knob and it has serrated edges on the needles that grab the material and felt it.
I'll knit up a swatch and see how it works. You can also use the needles in conjunction with the 'wet felting'. Speeds it along I guess. I plan on felting a knitting needle case, so we'll see how that goes.

I used noro kuyeron- it stripes as you go. It comes in all different colors- really pretty!
It is kind of pricey though- I am making the same bag again but twice the size and am using wool from a.c. moore that is less expensive and seems to felt better.
