We are going w/ Thomas Paul - He was referred to my by a friend who's wedding we did and I LOVE HER PICS!!!!! Plus the few times meeting w/ Paul he is also awesome. The price was similar but the one on one care I got w/ Paul could not be replaced.
I have another friend who used Duet w/ her wedding and I was not too happy. The photographers had a difficult time speaking english and I think that if her father (who is also a wedding photographer) was not there they would not have had the wonderful shots they did.

well both have an artsy feel and i don't know about pricing but one main thing is - do you like effects on your pics or do you want artsy shots with the basic things of colorization, saturation, etc.
TP does a lot of effects on their photographs from what i have seen so if that is what you want go with them. If not then go with duet.

i used thomaspaul...... dh & i are SOO in LOVE with our photos!! we got so much for our money it's ridiculous..and the quality is just beautiful..

Thomas Paul is just amazing....we just did our e-pics with him and im in love with them and i only saw them on the back of the camera!!!

Thomas Paul does do effects on some of the photos, but out of approximately 1100 shots I got from him, he took maybe 6 and did them up with the effects. I mean, I'm sure if you wanted more than that he'd do them, but the majority of what he does is just really beautiful, solid, photography. He does all of the 'artsy' shots, with all of those basic tenets of photography that you mention, and he has a FANTASTIC eye for a good picture. The effects are really just an extra that he does on top of all of that.
I used Thomas Paul, and not only are my pictures wonderful, but working with him was just an absolute pleasure. You may not really realize exactly how much time that day you will spend with your photographer, especially if he's taking pictures of you getting ready. You want somebody who you are comfortable with and enjoy being around, or it can really mess up your day. I really recommend Tom, he was my favorite vendor from my wedding.

we met with both and they are both really good. But FH didnt like too many special effects that TP does, so we went with duet

In all fairness I am sure you could tell TP to tone down the effects. The shots are artsy and very creative and yes he/she does have an amazing eye. But of course the brides are asking for those effects I am sure.
