Re: Those

We are!

We both allocate a specific amount of money monthly to savings.

Here are some tips:

cook and brown bag lunch for both you and FH
I work in midtown and lunch can easily be 10 bucks a day

Dont shop for non-wedding related things lol this means no shoes no purses and no random 'must have' items

I took off the wrap on my nails and now I get mani's ...I mean cant forgo getting my nails and hair done all together but manicures are much cheaper than acrylic (sp?) I also maintain my own eyebrows so I can go longer between waxing.

FH touches up his own hair instead of going to the barbershop so often.

We still go out but not as much and we eat out less. At one point we would eat out 2-3 times a week!

We are also scaling down on some things for the wedding:

I am doing DIY non-floral CP's

We scaled down our photog package

We are not having limos ( the hotel is right next door to our wedding venue)

Prob no video

One of Fh's employees happens to have a DJ business on the side and is giving us a deal ( he has to FH is his boss lol)

In general we just try to put the wedding first. There are a more things we could do ( ie: do we really need ALL the movie channels?) but you cant give up everything!

Re: Those

we are going out less, cooking home more.

I cut out my starbucks almost completely.

No new clothes (I was a shopaholic, now im just dressed like a scrub)

It doesn't seem to be helping though-i went back to school this semester so that wiped my bank account clean

I'm a impulse spender too.. especially at Dollar Tree

'Yeah I need this picture frame.. Its only a dollar not a big deal' I need to be slapped.

My fh is obsesseed with money SO...that beign said...

Want to laugh? We couldnt get engaged...I REPEAT ENGAGED until:

a. we both had jobs (duh)
b. There was enough money in the bank to pay for three(YES THREE) weddings
c: We have the same amount in our untouchable CD for a downpayment on a house....

If it wasn't for him, I dont know how we would have done it... but luckily... hes the finance man!

Re: Those

So how we are saving even more:

Not using a videographer...having a friend video

I am DIY everything I can and using all items i got on clearance at craft stores

Since im allergic to flowers we are using diy centerpieces... (It actually saved us over 2,000)

The boys bought their suits, not renting tuxes

other than that, we really just dont go out much, and are living on one salary an dputting the rest away...but its hard...

Re: Those

The first thing you need to take a look at is after all the bills and living expenses are paid what can you realistically afford to save then x by how many months from your wedding. Then Factor in any help you may be getting from parents, tax returns etc.. Whatever the amt you get should be your starting point for your budget

i.e 200 x12 months = 2400
Tax Returns = 3000
Family Contributions=2000

$7500 for a wedding. It may not be the number we want to here but it makes very clear what you can really afford.

We are paying for everything ourselves (except my dress my mother offered to pay for that )

I have been brown bagging all my lunches and breakfast too, we do not go out to eat anymore. We don't go out period if its not FREE lol. I used to drive to work in the city I stopped all that. We have not bought a stich of clothing or shoes in the last 6months. I have become the coupon queen. If I don't NEED it then I don't buy it especially if it's not on sale. I never use to look at prices when going grocery shopping and now I do. If it's 10 for $1 I buy 20 LOL
My son who is 10 hasn't really noticed any difference I can't help but spoil him LOL
I
t a lot of work and sacrafice to pay for everything.

We have cut out a lot of things for the wedding also. We are not having a videographer. No floral CP's for the reception. NO HM right away. My MOH is making my invites, program, menu cards and seating cards.

Our wedding is 5months away and we still don't know if everything will be paid on time. FH has been out of work for a couple of months now luckily he just got a job and starts tomorrow! so we are going to use his check for the wedding but we still have a long road ahead.

We pretty much stopped going out. No impulse shopping. We're brown bagging lunch. I got rid of my cleaning lady (I'm still hurting over that one). I try to let my manicure last at least 10 days instead of going once a week.

Of course, unexpected things pop up all the time! My car needed a major repair ($2,900) and I owe NYS $3,000 in taxes.

I feel like lately!

Sounds like my FH! He asked to see my credit report as soon as we got serious! It's for the best.

Re: Those

We budget out all of our bills using excel. We didn't save enough soon enough so for the past year it's meant no shopping, no eating out, no extras. It can be done, but I won't lie.. It's tough!
