do you plan on ordering your gown a smaller size? I really plan on hitting the gym hard from now till the wedding and I plan on ordering my gown within the next 2 weeks. I want to order my gown 2 sizes smaller and have them take it in if necessary. My Mom thinks I should order it the size I am now and then take it in if necessary.
What do you plan on doing if you are losing a LOT of weight before your big day? Would you order it smaller or the size that you are now?

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
i would do what your mom suggested - buy the dress in your current size.
you can always have the dress taken in ... but making it larger is not really possible.
honestly, if i were you though, i'd just wait until it's closer to my wedding so i have a better idea of how much weight i'll lose.

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
I always say I plan on loosing weight and never do, so I plan on ordering the dress in my size now and if anything, it can be taken in.
But then again I just put a deposit down on my dress and dont plan on ordering it until january 2012, unless its discontinued before that.
So by that time, who knows if i would have lost or not!
but I think your best bet is to order it in the size you are now bcuz its better to take in then to let out!

This is the reason I'm waiting to go dress shopping... you and I are getting married around the same time, and I'm waiting til about a year out, a little less, to do my serious shopping and whatever size I am at that point is the size I will order.

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
I suggest you wait a while before ordering your dress.
I am still dress shopping for mine, but when I tried on a few dresses, my mom said something about me wanting to lose more weight, and the lady scolded me and said that I shouldn't loose too much weight from time of purchase to wedding because if she has to take it in too much it could ruin the look of the dress. This is especially important if you have a lot of intricate detail or beading on your dress.

Yes, cause if they have to take it in too much, the proportions of the segments of the dress will be weird and off and the dress won't look like the dress you ordered... and if it's super extreme, they won't be able to take it in enough at all.

Go with your current size, and just make sure that you get a cap on fitting costs. That way at each fitting, when you are smaller, you can take it in without worry about the budget.
As another bride said, you can take it easier than you can let it out...

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
i am on weight watchers lost 7 pounds so far :) having a hard time but im sticking to it! i pop bride wars in the dvd player and work my butt off! its harder for me because i lost 35 pounds a few years ago and gained it back due to being in love lol but anyway, you can order the dress you like and then have them hold out on measurements until the asbolute latest possible time. thats what i plan on doing since my wedding is not until 11/11/11

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
Either wait on getting it or order in the size you are now. I've been saying since Nov 2008 that I'm going to lose weight, here I am 6 months before the wedding and haven't lost a pound. Maybe it's all about discipline but I feel you would be putting unneccessary stress on yourself.

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
I wouldn't unless you are really serios about following a diet. I definately was serious. I have lost 18 lbs so far and 22 to go. The dress fits me now but I want to lose the rest of my baby weight so I am going to continue until I reach my goal. Good luck!!

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
So the consensus on this issue is to order it my current size..thanks so much ladies for the advice.
And as far as waiting to order the gown...its the gown of my dreams and I'm worried about not ordering it and them discontinuing the gown. I would be super CRUSHED if that happened. I compare every gown to mines and there's nothing that wows me about them that would make me feel like my gown would be a mistake. It just so happened that I found the gown of my dreams 1 year 6 months before my big day....
My Mom will be very happy to know she was right about this issue...

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
It depends on the dress. Some can only be taken in a certain amount. At the dress tore they told me the gowns an be taken in up to 2 sizes. I ordered mine a size smaller anyway. By the time it came, it fit, but I want to lose more weight. However, at that point they told me that since mine has a lot of beading, it really can't be taken in a full2 sizes. So it really depends on the gown. I would ait as long as possible to order also, what if you don't lose the weight?

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
Like someone else said if you order the dress now and loose alot of weight they might not be able to take it in. It will totally change the look of the dress. I would ask how many sizes the dress can be taken in. My store told me they can take it in or let it out up to 3 sizes and it cant go over the cap of $225.
Side note: I was between sizes and I ordered my dress a size smaller. I am very serious and focused about loosing the weight and have done what i consider a good job so far. If you order the smaller size make sure you are really focused on doing it.

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...
If you decide to purchase your dress now just make sure that the seamstress at the store says they will be able to take it in. I bought my dress 3 sizes bigger than what I was @ my wedding. When I purchased my gown I told them that I was going to be losing weight and they said they could take it in no matter what...my seamstress was amazing b/c you could never tell she took it in..Alot of times it depends on the dress and the detail. My seamstress actually took my applique off my dress, took it in, then sewed the applique back on! It was a big job! The woman who sold me the dress said that she didn't want me to take the chance off ordering smaller and then not losing the weight, she said that this happens all to frequently...HTH
