Those Brides Losing Weight...

Original post by Tetelove

do you plan on ordering your gown a smaller size? I really plan on hitting the gym hard from now till the wedding and I plan on ordering my gown within the next 2 weeks. I want to order my gown 2 sizes smaller and have them take it in if necessary. My Mom thinks I should order it the size I am now and then take it in if necessary.

What do you plan on doing if you are losing a LOT of weight before your big day? Would you order it smaller or the size that you are now?

I also had found the dress of my dream and didnt want it discontinued but also wanted to lose weight. The lady at the dress shop told me I could put a deposit down and that way they had to call me if it was going to be discontinued and I could order it then, otherwise I could wait and order it like 8 months before and be closer to my weight goal. I did what she said and ended up ordering the dress just a week ago in a two sizes smaller than when I found it.

See if you can do something like that so that you don't lose out on the dress, but so you can try to get closer to your goal before getting measured.

You could do 1 of 3 thing. order it i ur current size, however if you lose too much weight they won't be able to take n the dress with out ruining it. r second option is to get a smaller size but if you don't lose enough weight and then you will have to figure out if they can take out the dress. Or ur final option is to wait a little longer to order the dress so you r closer to the size you want to be/or will be.

I def. plan on hitting the gym hard core but I dont' know if it's a good idea to get your dress in a smaller size because you cannot make the dress larger.

So the consensus on this issue is to order it my current size..thanks so much ladies for the advice.

And as far as waiting to order the gown...its the gown of my dreams and I'm worried about not ordering it and them discontinuing the gown. I would be super CRUSHED if that happened. I compare every gown to mines and there's nothing that wows me about them that would make me feel like my gown would be a mistake. It just so happened that I found the gown of my dreams 1 year 6 months before my big day....

My Mom will be very happy to know she was right about this issue...

I'm not sure where you are ordering your dress from but I know one store claimed that as long as the dress was in the system (meaning you placed the order already) you could actually get it reorder in your current size if you lose weight. I would ask about that as well and order the size you are. HTH

I havent tried on my dress since ordering it...but Ive lost about 10 lbs since I ordered it. I'm just gonig to have it taken it. Its easier to have it taken in than made bigger.

I ordered my dress a size larger than the store recommended (because I was afraid that I would gain weight and it wouldn't fit...I was right on the cusp of 2 sizes.) I then lost about 20 pounds so the dress was swimming on me. They had no trouble taking the dress in the 4 sizes it needed to come in. I say order in what size you are now so tere is no risk of it being too small! You can always take in but once you start adding panels and all the price tag on alterations will skyrocket!

Thanks for the advice ladies!! My Mom was really flipping out when I told her about my bright idea of ordering my gown smaller. Last night I was talking to her and figured out why she was SO upset...she plans on purchasing my wedding gown for me and she said she would be PISSED if it didn't fit. So I plan on ordering it the size I am now.

Thanks so much for the advice....Mother DOES know best...

I agree - as much as I hate to admit it, my mother really has known 'best' about almost everything so far.

You have soooo much time there is no need for you to even place the order for you dress right now. i but some money down on mine and i will go back in august to get measurements. Your wedding is like 5 months after mine, you can wait even longer and get measured closer to the event.

I would def order in my current size... There was an issue with my dress (the sizing was off) and when it came in it was suppppper tight (it still zipped up but it was like a corset it was so tight)! Instead of sending it back I decided to keep it thinking I would lose the weight. Well I busted my butt and lost 15 lbs, had the dress taken out two inches and it was STILL tight.. Towards the end of the night of my wedding I was in pain and miserable! So the moral of the story is, don't ever go a size down! It's not worth all the potential stress that comes with it. HTH!

I am planning on losing 40 pounds for the wedding

I'm waiting till summer to try on dresses and when I order it I'm going to order in whatever size I am at the time.. If I don't lose enough I don't want to be stuck with a tight dress! Thjey can always take the dress in!

Re: Those Brides Losing Weight...

I wasn't aware that when you put money on the gown..that it is a deposit. I thought they ordered the gown when you put the deposit down.

When I went to RK Bridal they didn't tell us that they can hold the deposit for the gown but not order it. She informed us that if no deposit is put down on the gown, that if the dress is discontiuned I would lose out on the gown.

I plan on going back to RK Bridal during the week to try the gown on again but I plan on ordering the gown from a bridal store on Long Island. Any suggestions as far as where to order it from????
