I started grad school this past September, so after we were engaged, but before the wedding. First semester I took two classes and was working full time, this semester, three with working full time and the wedding. While I say I wouldn't recommend it to anyone (I've never been so freaking happy that something was over once the wedding planning wasn't around any longer), I absolutely wouldn't recommend putting it off simply due to the wedding. I have a big problem with people who do things like this - putting off grad school, law school, whatever simply to plan a 5 hour party - because that's what it amounts to ladies - is just ridiculous.
So, basically, go for it. But delegate wedding responsibilities as much as possible so you can concentrate on school.

Re: Those in Grad School....
I was in grad school for one year before I got engaged, 3 years before married, and had two to go. It was tought planning during school, but we had a 2 year engagement, so I spread everything out I have no income, so it makes things difficult for us now, but once i have my doctorate, it will be worth it. I go to pace university in manhattan.

Re: Those in Grad School....
I worked full time and went to grad school at night. I finished a year before we got engaged. This is my first year teaching and it has been hard planning a wedding and planning for work at the same time. Unfortunately I have not been able to enjoy the wedding stuff as much as I had envisioned because of my job! So I can't wait for the honeymoon.

Re: Those in Grad School....
I was going during my engagement and graduated a semester after I got married. Luckily my honeymoon fell over a break.

Re: Those in Grad School....
I graduated from law school in 2003...I thought FH might propose while I was in school and I told him not to...I knew I couldn't handle going to school full time, working part time and planning a wedding!!!

Re: Those in Grad School....
Started the month after we got engaged
The George Washington University (Washington, DC)
Not working full time ( I worked full time and went to school full time for my masters degree and had no life let alone time to plan a wedding -workign on my PhD now).
It's been an INSANE year starting back at school after being out for 5 years. I lost my job since it was granted funded so I actually have lots of time to do wedding stuff. If I was working, I would have to say I would have waited until after the wedding.

Re: Those in Grad School....
I started full-time grad school in September 2004 and got married October 2004. It was VERY stressful and hard to pull of but I did it! I attend TC at Columbia University for School Psych....only 2 more years to go!

Re: Those in Grad School....
I am going to smack in the middle of my graduate studies when we have our wedding (joy!). It's rough and it's going to be hard, but that's why we started palnning so far in advance...this way I would not go crazy with everything...well, maybe.

Re: Those in Grad School....
We got engaged in Jan '04 and to be married Sept 05. I am graduating in June and I tell you its been very very stressful.
If I had to make a choice, I'd probably defer getting married til I was 6 months out of school, so that i had time to truly enjoy the planning experience! Its very hard to balance work, school, and getting married! JMO

Re: Those in Grad School....
Finished grad school and got my CPA before we got engaged - but we didn't wait specifically until I was finished, it just happened that way.
I plan on going back to grad school again to switch fields. Turns out, I don't like accounting!
I give all you ladies credit though - full time jobs and school!

Re: Those in Grad School....
I am finishing up my program at Hofstra this May, I am also working full time- I have not been able to focus much time to planning because I am finishing my thesis, but our wedding is also not for another 2 years, so we have some time. This summer I will finally be able to focus more.
Good Luck! I'm sure it will all work out!

Re: Those in Grad School....
I'm starting my MA in Occupational Therapy at Columbia this fall and the wedding date is set for July 3, 2006. Classes are full time during the Fall and Spring semesters. During the summers, we have full-time fieldwork assignments, so I'm trying to get as much planning done as possible before I start the program. If timing works out, I'll try to squeeze in a work study job but I don't think I can manage much more than that.
I'm struck with awe at all of the ladies who juggle school, work, and wedding planning. WOW!

Re: Those in Grad School....
Hi,
I wanted to finish Grad School before we got engaged. FH knew that, so we got engaged a few months after. I worked and went to school full time. I got my master's within two years, but very stressful. I went to NYU.

Re: Those in Grad School....
I'm in a PhD program at University of Maryland. I'm in my third year, and I got engaged 5 months ago. I've got a few more years to go, probably 3. My FI is also in grad school, and he might get his PhD around the time of our wedding. We both do this full time, as we are paid from grants. The problem that I'm worried about is that he may leave for a postdoc soon after we're married, and I would still be in Maryland while I finish. That's a hard way to start off married life.

Re: Those in Grad School....
Did you start before, during, after the wedding?
I got engaged during my second year of law school at St. Johns. I graduated in June and took the bar in July.
Are you working full time?
I was working part time while going to school.
What do you think? It was hectic at points but once the main vendors were done i didnt really have a big problem. I am glad i was over with school for the last month before the wedding though.

Re: Those in Grad School....
I went to grad school online before I even got engaged. I worked full-time the whole way through. Couldn't imagine having to do that AND plan the wedding. Def giving you girls who're doing that some major points for organization and time-management! Way to go!!!
