I am still deciding on reception halls, but my question is their is such a huge price difference between our number 1 choice and number 2 choice ($10,000). Do you think it is worth the extra money? I have heard both sides, it is a five hour affair vs it is the best day of your life? The married women that I have spoken to say go for the cheaper place, but I like everyones input? Thanks

I'm not married yet...but I say, no...don't do it. You can put that 10K towards something else...like a DP on a house...or the HM. JMO.
ETS: I'm sure the #2 place will be just as great and you can still have the best day of your life!

Personally I would save the money Everyone one of my friends who had the big wedding - who now has 2 kids wishes that they had the money and didn't have the big party. My budget isn't big and I know that my party will still be amazing and a great day for everyone who can make it!

It depends on what is important to you. What is it about the most expensive place that you can't get at the cheaper place? Then ask yourself if it is really that important to you and FH.
Personally for that kind of difference, I might just have to put the 10K to better use like a house or savings.

you can make a less expensive (since NONE of this is CHEAP) be even more beautiful than the expensive hall....it's all in what matters
Food and friends mattered more, so we went with a less expensive hall. We are splurging on a chocolate fountain for the guests and our HM was $3500.

I went through this exact same thing... and let me say, the hall is just the beginning, everything is more expensive than what you expect, so keep that in mind.

I spent a lot on my wedding and I was happy I did. I dont have any regrets.
But I think it depends on where you are in your life and your priorities. If you are planning on buying a house, having a baby, et.c.. right after the wedding and you have limited funds, it may not be worth it to you. If you already have those things or are not planning that, etc... its nice to be able to get exactly what you want. All depends on you.

Maybe there's a way to get the more expensive hall for a cheaper price (choose the off-season, or a day wedding or a Sunday night wedding). Then you get the best of both.

I spent a lot too, but it really was worth it! What halls are you torn between?
but I would say don't overspend...if you can't afford it...you can't afford it...
but I was so happy with our day...even with the money we spent...

I would say save the $. We had a similar decision to make - we had our hearts set on a Saturday night, but it was $10,000 more than Saturday day. To us, it just wasn't worth it, but it still bums me out sometimes. $10,000 is a lot of money.

Exactly! You have to weigh out what it is you are getting for $10K more which is really ALOT of money. Then decide if it is what you want more than anything. There are going to be tons of things that come up during the wedding that you are going to be tempted to go over budget on. If you go way over with the hall, it won't leave you much room for later on. It may only be 10K now but then, before you know it and you add on everything else, it'll skyrocket to $20K or $30K more than you wanted to spend!
Also, keep in mind that if the difference between the two halls you are considering is say something like choosing between Oheka Castle and Swan Club -- you may not be able to cheap out on other things like centerpieces or music, or your gown because it will look silly. Sometimes when you are having your reception in a more expensive place, it will call for more expensive everything else!

Re: Those Married/Brides Is 10K worth it?
I did not have my reception at my #1 choice- and today, it doesn't matter. In the end, nothing matters, as long as you're happily married
What made me decide was I asked what both places had to offer? I really wanted some water background pictures. Although the Crest Hollow is not surrounded by water, like Land's End, example, they had a pool, and a pond with a fountain... and beautiful grounds. I honestly felt like a princess and I'm glad I didn't spend the extra $$$$$$$$$$$$$
So, I say, think of what you want from your hall, and if both are offering it, go for the 2nd choice. 4 of the girls I know who got married this past year went w/ their 2nd choices

I don't totally agree with this, however I understand what you are saying. If one is rather imaginative and creative, you would be surprised how one can do a lot with a little. Also, sometimes 'less is more' and if one invests in the place, one really does not have to invest in much else because the ambiance will overpower the 'little things' that no one will even notice...

Every married person I speak to says keep it as cheap as you can, and still have it nice. I could NEVER justify an extra 10k on a hall, unless I was filthy rich. That money could be put to so much better use.
