Just curious to know why couples choose not to do video .. I'm wondering if it's mainly just a money issue for many people .. or just don't want one .. or whatever ..
Also .. for those who choose not to do a video because of a money issue .. what's the cut-off point for having one and choosing not to have one???

Some people choose not to have a video but that is one of the most important things because you see a lot of things that you didn't get to notice or absorb because the day goes by so fast. I have a friend who spent a lot of money in her wedding dress and no video. She regrets it every day. It's better to cut on some other things in the budget and have that.

We aren't having a video. We seriously considered it, and met with a videographer. In the end we decided it was too much money for something we would never watch.
We really just wanted someone to video the ceremony, we had no interest in watching people eat and drink but it was way too expensive for 20 minutes (around $700).
Some of our guests will have camcorders, and that's good enough for us.

To wendy...you are probably not going to watch it but your future children will...and I think when you sit down and watch it with your bridesmaids or you FI, you will relive the moment.

Re: Those Not Doing Video ...
we never second guessed having a video, but i do have friends who opted not to have one, and they all regret that decision. You plan and pland and when your day comes..its goes by sooooo FAST!!! So very fast! In our case, our photographer did not do our wedidng justice ..the video is what puts it all back into life..you cant get that book, a certain look, or a certain touch, for example, my husband rubbed my back throughout the ceremony..its sweet to watch that, when we had to say I do, I mumbled out of nervousness..he said it so loid and proud..I LOVE hearing that on the video, at our weddng, one of our favorite songs came on and we were dancing and he started jumping aorund me doing this little dance, he was kicking up his legs, going around me in a circle, it was so cute because he was so happy, and thats on the video, just special moments that a photo can NOT capture...we went with the basic package on our video..we didnt need the expensive stuff, I know everyone has their own opinions, but the like I said, my friends who didnt get video, really wish they had gotten one now, and this is after being married for four, ten years, they wish they had a video. So really think about it!

Not having a video, never considered it. It's just not my taste, and I truly wouldn't watch it in the future. If my kids are interested, they can check out my photos!
I would not want to have a videographer roaming around - god forbid with a light and/or assistant. I know many people enjoy this and get great value out of having it done, but it's one of the things I loathe seeing at weddings I attend. JMHO.

We opted not to do a video because it didn't fit into the budget...and we will never watch it. However, I am going to have a friend video tape the ceremony and some parts of the reception, so we can look at it if we want to.

I just don't want one -- my family has some videos of childhood events and we never watch them, but we look at photos all the time. Also, FH and I aren't comfortable with cameras, so having the photographer around is enough stress for us!

Re: Those Not Doing Video ...
Well as a bride who swore up and down that she would never get video I will add my .02 cents.........I just thought they would be horrifically annoying. FH HATED the idea, he said they always bothered guests and had those annoying bright lights, and that we would never watch. After hearing people rave about Wild Rose we decided to go look and was BLOWN away, (me more than FH, a man thing) but he still liked it enough to reconsider. I think it is something that you can cherish forever, pictures are nice but the actual movement and music and such is really something special........If I hadn't met Wild Rose I wouldn't have gotten it but it was really am amazing job they do. I think most people just feel like it is a waste of money for something they will never watch, but if the video is really 'produced' it is not like watching you wedding video it is almost like watching a movie you happen to be the star of

photos can tell a story about a wedding but your vedio will allow you to hear your vows, relive the first dance with your new FW/FH. Like NYCHICK..it's a movie. A love story at it's finest. Vedio can range from all prices. Even if you dont get professinoal, get a family member with one and tell em to just get the good stuff.

Re: Those Not Doing Video ...
We are not having a video due to It was $1500 and we really could put that money towards something else. I have a relative who video my brothers wedding and made him a copy. It came out just lovely, just no special effects. So we will be asking them to do the same for us.
We look at it this way, how many times are we really going to watch it? When we first get it back, yes of course.....but then it will probably collect dust some where... just not going to do it!

My sentiments exactly...We have many friends w/ great camcorders that will video our wedding. I have a few friends that didn't have a videographer @ their wedding & they don't regret it at all.

For us- it is not because of the money- (not that we have it but it's not going to make or break us anyway) i didn't care either way- he is absolutely opposed! We have friends that will video some of the stuff. He feels like its a waist of $$$ - that we will only watch it one time and it will sit in a cabinet. He hates the camera in his face- ( he's been in a ton of wedding) He would rather get extra photographer for photojournalism shots and get top of the line pictures. I was ok with that because I want lots and lots of good pics. I am getting everything else I want for this day. It's a matter of preference.

I didn't do video because it wasn't my style either...but now regret it. The day went soooooooooooo fast that I hardly remember it. Looking at the pictures helps...but, I would sooooooooooooooooo love to have a video to show me how the day went down and to actually see us doing stuff...

Re: Those Not Doing Video ...
it was a money issue, but DH said he'd be more inclined to pull out a photo album and look at that instead of sitting and watching a video. We got a video from our uncle, and it was pretty good...I cried my eyes out!!

Re: Those Not Doing Video ...
Ours isnt really a money issue, we can afford it, although I was shocked at how much they charge for the videos. We just didnt really want it. And surveying most of my friends/family who have it, most of whom are married more than 5 years, the most anyone has watched it 2x. I have numerous friends who didnt get it and dont regret it at all. And I have one friend who got it and said, yeah it nice but not worth the money when I never look at it. Personally I just couldnt justify the cost! We are buying a house and paying for a wedding and in the end I just dont feel its worth it.

i feel the same way.
i will have a still video camera on a tripod at the ceremony, and a friend of ours who has professional grade equipment may take some extra footage as well. photographs are more important to me.

Re: Those Not Doing Video ...
be aware people, the types of camera these days are much better then before. We have an option of a lighting assitant but was told will probally not be needed. Camera is taught to be in disguised....its not like they are gonna ruin your converstation...make pretend they arent there...

Re: Those Not Doing Video ...
We aren't doing because we don't liekt o look at ourselves.
I can't believe I'm actually havign 2 photographers!
My mother seemed surprised,s o she is insiting my family memebrs tape it.
I am ok with that, but I'd prefer it to jsut be the early stuff & the ceremony. I also want to make sure there are not more than 2 people taping it.
One of my unlces has a digtal video camera that is small & discreet, but , um, he is not so small & discreet himself, which is why I don't think I want it at the reception. He's the in your face type.
I guess that would be an advantage to a professional, a good one would be discreete, but its not enough of a reason to get it. FH dislikes it more than me, I would consider it if he wanted, but I did see how much my photographer charges for it- so it is a lot to add on since we don't really want it.
