Those Not Doing Video ...

Original post by Kel

Just curious to know why couples choose not to do video .. I'm wondering if it's mainly just a money issue for many people .. or just don't want one .. or whatever ..

Also .. for those who choose not to do a video because of a money issue .. what's the cut-off point for having one and choosing not to have one???

One more thing, I think it is the quality of work moreso the money. I mean no one would object paying a nice price for a really good product..........

That sort of goes without saying .. in my opinion .. I'm really just trying to get a general idea of what the breaking point is for people choosing not to do video ... because it seems like when the budget is tight .. this is one of the first things people cross off their list and go without .. and I'm just curious about it.

And in my opinion, $700 just for the ceremony is really expensive .. especially if the ceremony is only going to be a half-hour .. but even if it were an hour or so .. I'd still consider that expensive.

Not having a video, never considered it. It's just not my taste, and I truly wouldn't watch it in the future. If my kids are interested, they can check out my photos!

I would not want to have a videographer roaming around - god forbid with a light and/or assistant. I know many people enjoy this and get great value out of having it done, but it's one of the things I loathe seeing at weddings I attend. JMHO.

Agreed. Everyone has different priorities. For some of my friends, they'd sooner not have a wedding than not have a video. I just know that we'd never watch it and I'd rather put that money to other things. Pictures are good enough for us.

That i definitely would not do.but that is kinda my point about the money thing. $700 for a 4 minute ceremony is robbery. What on earth are they gonna do in that time.

When I talk about the money I mean a want a 'production', my video is VERy expensive but for what I get for the money I can't complain. If I am paying that kinda mula I want to see some flash, I want it to look like I went to a Hollywood Studio and martin scorcese worked on my wedding video(exaggeration but you get what I am saying)...........I want produce for my money and the ceremony is the most plain part of the tape, they are not going to put music over you guys saying your vows and stuff.........seems a bit outrageous..$700

I just don't think video is that important. I hate seeing myself on video. It just makes me cringe. I feel like I would be so uncomfortable with it following me. I'm going to have two photographers, that's good enough for me. I am more into the actual marriage than the wedding, so I really don't care if I don't have every single moment recorded on tape. Plus the $$$ factor.

I don't want to have one, mostly because I was forced to watch the wedding videos of my 4 siblings over and over and there's nothing more boring in the world than someone else's wedding video! I just didn't want to be the one making everyone else bored!

But when I was little I liked to watch the home movies of my parents' wedding. So I'm going to ask people to bring camcorders if they have them and film whatever they can. I think it will feel more like old-fashioned home movies. The idea of having my wedding 'produced' by some videographer just seems weird to me--like it's somebody else's version of my wedding. JMHO.

my thoughts also. I will always look at photo albums... However we bought a digicam last year which we will be taking our own videos, passing it around, to capture some moments, esp. ceremony...

We are not having a video. I agree with the other posts that said you don't want someone following you around throughout the day with an assistant, leaning in for that better shot...I want to feel as relaxed as possible, and I know that won't happen with a camera in my face.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to chime in - if it is a money issue, I would suggest using someone on my Budget Vendor list - Craig Seeman of Third Planet Video, who does weddings on the side of his videography company, will shoot an unedited for $300, 6 hours. I've seen his demos and they're really good - clear and good sound. I think it's worth it to have even the unedited video - my and my FI spent more time looking for a videographer than a photographer, and my FBIL's feel that their video captured their wedding much more than their pictures did. It's a personal choice, but I would at least have a family friend tape it.

not doing it, not in my taste or desire. I barely take pictures as it is so at least I have a photog right!
