those of you who moved to another state!

how did you do it?
did you save, move, find a job?
or were you transferred?
or did you go down, find a job, settle things up here and go?
how was it getting to know your new area?

i ask b/c i don't know how or if dh and i will be able to afford a house here on li. i go to weichert.com and visit connecticut, new jersey, delaware and maryland and see that there is sooooo much more and yet, i'm afraid that we wouldn't be able to get jobs or that it would be hard to visit the families. how is it? i mean, there are parts of maryland that are 4 hours away. we could do that. but how often? i am sooooo confused.

we came to visit DH sister, looked at houses, found we we liked (it fell through though), went back to NY, told our jobs and families, ad 5 days later packed all our stuff in a truck and DROVE to Georgia with the dog. No major money saved, no new jobs, nothing! But it's all worked out!

We have been in Charlotte, NC for about a month now.

We had a substantial amount of money saved up before we moved out, we wanted to be able to put down 20% on a house wherever we moved.

I work for a large company that has an office in pretty much any large to mid-sized city in the country, I requested a transfer which was approved. Had I not been granted the transfer, I would have started sending my resume to other accounting firms in the area. My company was fairly accomodating, and we had to compromise on how long until the transfer went through etc. But along with that compromise came my keeping my NY salary in NC.

It's a 10.5 hour drive, which is too long, but it's a 2.5 hour flight and my mom has all ready been down here once.

We moved because while I wanted to stay in New York, and we probably could have afforded a place there, I wanted a calmer lifestyle where I wouldn't be killing my self to make a $2500 mortgage payment, and frankly, my commute was killing me.

I think it's one of the best decisions we have ever made. Parts have been hard, but overall, great decision.
