For me it did not hurt at all. My dentist is very gentle so that makes a big difference.

It didn't hurt at all. I made sure to have enough novacaine. Little uncomfortable but isn't all dental work!

If you feel any pain, and I mean pain and not discomfort, just let the dentist know and he'll give you more anastetic. If you have a good dentist, you won't feel a thing.
Good luck.

my last one didn't hurt at all .. this was with a new dentist i went to and he was awesome ... all i had was novacaine and didn't feel a thing ... so if you have a good dentist i don't think you will feel a thing ...

good luck

Getting it done was not painful...uncomfortable maybe, but not painful... I have to be honest though... after it was over I felt some pain- but I called up the doctor and they gave me some meds and I felt perfectly fine the next day! Sleep it off...It is NOT as bad as the rumors

I had two.. Honestly my first one hurt like %^$%^ seriously, don't mean to scare you or anything but it was kind of my fault, my friend who had one before told me that I should of taken pain killers before and after. I just did another like 3 weeks ago and didn't feel anything, I went to the dentist before and I told him to give me the prescription for pain killers. I could of slept through the second one.. I made sure my FH came with me on the second one to drive us home because I had taken some pain killers before and after... hope this help...once again I apogloize for being honest I am really not trying to scare you.

Re: Those of you who've had root canals

I just had a root canal 2 weeks ago... I didn't have any pain during the root canal (I told him I needed a LOT of novocaine), but OH BOY did I hurt when the novocaine wore off. It may have been my dentist (who I had never been to before... he was recommended. I now have switched to another guy, who will do my crown). I had to go back 2 days later for him to file down my tooth so it would stop hurting. I saw stars everytim I accidentally bit on it. Also, my throat started hurting, so he gave me antibiotics, which some dentists do to prevent infection.

Keep in mind that... if you have a dental plan... you may still have to pay a pretty penny for the root canal and crown. My out-of-pocket with this guy was going to be about $500, but I'm switching to another guy who will take less from me. I thought I only had to pay the deductible, so it was a SHOCK when they told me THAT amount! Yikes!!! Just find out beforehand what your expense will be.

Good luck! And you will probably be sore tonight after the procedure.

I am TERRIFIED of dentists and the like and unfortunately my dentist couldnt' do it so he referred me to an endodontist who specializes in root canals. I really have to say it was uncomfortable becasue they like lock your mouth open for a long time but I really didn't feel anything. So you don't have a lot to worry about!

I had one a few years ago. i really didn't feel anything b.c of the novacaine (sp), but my mouth was so tired from being open for so long.

I have had several, none were painful during the process, except achy jaw from keeping mouth open and chapped lips.
After the novacaine wore off, it hurt a little but nothing major
