Those that have only 1 cat.....

Those that have only 1 cat.....

Do you ever think about getting another so your cat has a playmate?

I sometimes feel bad leaving Chloe or feel I don't play with her enough.

I am torn.

We considered it at the beginning but at this point (Piggy is 5 years old now) we are worried that she would feel even worse if there was a new cat in the house. She's already lived with 2 dogs (now only 1). I think she prefers being the queen of the house.

how old is Chloe? I have 2 cats and they are like brothers It definitely keeps them amused.

I only have one cat, but he has a dog and a guinea pig to play with, so he is definitely entertained all day. He wouldn't be happy alone, he gets mad when we take the dog to the park and leave him home.

Chloe will be 3 about May....we got her when she was about 6 mos. She is my shadow, always under my feet and very affectionate and playful...I just want her to be happy!

We considered it until we had to move in with my mother for 2 months and so how antisocial Xena is with other animals. My Mom's cats were trying to be so friendly and Xena was hissing clawing and doing every no no and it never got better in the 2 months we lived there. So nope no other cat for us. We are planning on get a dog the summer of 06 so hopefully she will adjust to that.

Re: Those that have only 1 cat.....

I had one cat for 14 years. He is very nasty, and doesn't get along well with other animals AT ALL!!!!! My sister used to bring her cat by once in a while, an dit took a long time for my cat to be used to another cat being around.

Recently, we bought a kitten, mostly becasue my cat is so nasty and mean and I crave affection from pets! So in November, we adopted a new kitten.

We let themmeet each other slowly....and after about 2 weeks, when the big mean cat was introduced to the kitten, he welcomed her and now he loves her and is a lot nicer to me. He's not completely nice all the time, but he LOVES his kitten.

So I think it can be a positive experience.....but I think we also got very lucky in finding a perfect kitten that my older cat really took to.
It's a tough decision, becuase it can turn out badly!

We got maddy a kitten for that reason. At first of course it's hard, and you MUST read on how to introduce the cats properly and what kind to adopt as a playmate, but it is the best thing for them.

Re: Those that have only 1 cat.....

I did have one male 4-year-old until last October. We felt the same way, he was lonely with us gone all day and even though he is very vocal he was getting more and more whiney and it was so sad when I could hear him calling me on my way to my apartment

So, I did LOADS of research, spoke to my vet, kitty minder etc. and decided to get another male of the same age. We found a great guy at the Wantagh town shelter (with the help of REGI on here). It was difficult at the beginning - two alpha males - but I kept them separated for a week and all was well. It was the best thing we did. Mr. Darcy is much quieter now and gets more exercise than he ever did because Fitzpatrick is more energetic and they chase one another for fun.

Cats are better by themselves than dogs are.

we got two from the start so they would play with each other since we both work full time jobs and didnt want them to be bored.

We've always gotten them in pairs because I think they definitely do need playmates when you're not there

Gosh, I am so torn. When I get home from work all she does is whine...not really a meow...but a whine.

I really didn't want a 2nd cat, but would get one for her. But it can really backfire too...Chloe is extremely timid...I don't know how she would be with another cat.

At my mother's we always had more than one cat... We even had 13 at one point

I know a lot. That's because the mother cat had a litter of 4 and then again with 6.

My DH and I currently have one cat and we are still searching to get another one.

We got Misiu from my coworker who go him from a Newsday ad. The woman told my coworker he was the only surviving kitty, that someone the others died. My coworker never asked

We definently want to get him a friend.

I hear that especially siamese need a friend.

My Cats LOVE eachother- I will never have only one cat again.

My kitty died and my other cat was miserable until we got him a kitten.
