Those who admit they HAVE a president named BUSH!

Original post by Xelindrya

since I live now in a hugely democratic state I expect some push back.

I never said I *LOVE* Bush
I never said I *SUPPORT* Bush in everything

But he *IS* our president

For that I am starting this thread.. and I'll continue something like this for as long as it takes for other posters here to understand that to ridicule our government at any and every possible chance is actually insult to some of us.

(omitted rude and uncalled for religious remark I made. My deepest apologies)
That is my honest opinion.

Im not a hard core republican, Texan or not. I admit I voted for him but then again Kerry was Scary in more ways that Bush to me.

Its just giving me a sick feeling that this is such a very rude environment for all out political fanfare of mud slinging, name calling and exaggeration.

Most posters here show decent respect to religions of any and all forms here but seems that LIW considers ok to have all out murder and smear about Bush.

I'll bet I can prove this theory but showing that in the first 10 or less post (or none) that someone will say something degrading about the FEDERAL government. Not just Bush cause last I heard he's NOT KING!

True
I apologize humbly you are most correct. I admit I was upset. No excuse and I won't even pretend it is one. I am sorry.

It makes me feel really good that you said that.

I just feel incredibly sad that my first presidential election was 2000 and my vote was neglected and the president was decided by the supreme court.

i still feel that we just shouldve had another election but thats a whole other thread.

so b/c of 2000, i didnt vote in 2004. so maybe i dont have a say but i just wonder what it says about Americans when we elect a president who still lacks basic speaking, reading, and people skills.

For me its not abojut democrat or republican or other.....its about being embarassed that this idiot is representing my country

Again, I feel old. My first Presidential election was choosing between George H. W. Bush and Michael Dukakis on an absentee ballot when I was in college in 1988. Some of you were just learning your times tables and cursive handwriting! STAY YOUNG!!!

that was my first election too - I was listening to the radio in lab at college to hear who was winning! I remember they announced Gore won Florida and I was jumping up and down I was so happy. Unfortunately they took that back - GRRR - and we all know the outcome

It really was disheartening

Hi,

Just wanted to say that I am a Bush fan as well! Of course I don't think he is perfect but, I would vote for him again given the same choices.

I'm not one to battle out my politics here on this board or in my personal life. I am an attorney and am surrounded by Bush HATERS, as most new yorkers are. During election time, I just sat back, listened to their bashing and kept my mouth shut.

Low and behold - look who won. Obviously the majority are on our side, even if they are the quiet majority

So, I do the same when I see the bashing on this board. I laugh it off. Obviously, he is not an idiot and, most of our country seems to think he is doing a good job

Well, the Bush/Gore election was only the fourth time in U.S. history when a President was elected who did not win the popular vote.

Good point Beth! And of course, lets not forget, its wasnt most of our country unless you mean to say EXTRAORDINARY NARROW margin

(one of the closest in history I believe)

Actually, current polls demonstrate that the majority of the country does NOT think he's doing a good job, do NOT think that the war in Iraq is now worth it.... Just to correct the facts....

Sorry, I don't think this is obvious. He can't seem to put together a coherent sentence without the aid of a prepared speech.

Bush's job-approval rating to the lowest point of his presidency at 42 percent, according to a latest survey co-conducted by The Washington Post and US TV news network ABC.

Not saying whether I like or dislike but we have to realize that the President does not make any decision on his own. There is the cabinet, the senate, the congress, etc.

The President isn't running the country alone...

And Bush's 59 million plus popular vote total is the most votes received in the history of this country, surpassing Reagan's total in 1984.

You are completely entitled to your views

But regarding the above quote. . .

I just have to point out that the 48.27% of America who voted for Kerry (50.73% voted for Bush) was also the highest number of people voting for a losing Presidential candidate in the history of this country. . . unless of course you include Gore - but if you ask me he won that election.

2004 was the smallest margin of victory for a sitting president in the history of this country. (50.73% to 48.27%)

If you consider a vote for Kerry or Nadar as a vote against Bush - then in 2004 more people voted against Bush than any other sitting President in our country's history.

(numbers from Wikpedia.com)

So the fact that he was re-elected doesnt speak for itself - in my opinion.

I agree with everyone you'd expect me to agree with and have to give a big ditto sign to.

freedom of dissent. it's huge. it's wonderful. keep it alive

also, people act like bush is some victim of the media, but every president I can remember has been slammed by te media and hard. I mean, just look at Clinton. At least Bush is being criticized for his policy and not his bedroom behavior.

I believe we have a much more divided country than we did ten years ago. No poll I;'ve seen recently has shown any pverwhelming support for Bush..the numbers have been low since before the katrina disaster and resulting debacle. I think it's impossible to say that most of the country supports Bush and the dissenters are few. I feel we're a very divided country.

Exactly what everyone was trying to say but takeoutcook, you said it best!

Re: Those who admit they HAVE a president named BUSH!

Take a look at George W's transcript to see how successful he was at Yale. He got in through connections, and was not a stellar student when he was there...He had been admitted with an SAT score of 1206, which would have gotten no one else into Yale, but having your grandfather and father attend did help him get in...His IQ is 100, while not bad, is not Mensa material either.

Re: Those who admit they HAVE a president named BUSH!

I read that Bush's grades actually were slightly better than Kerry's, got progressively better over the 4 years (kerry's didn't -- were just steadily mediocre to bad) and Bush's lowest grade was better than Kerry's. Know you didn't make the comparison but so many people during the election were so quick to crucify Bush as dumb and not a good student at Yale when they had no clue how the candidate they touted as the 'intellectual' performed at the same university.

Free speech is a great thing and we're all entitled. One thing we all benefit from though is not to be dismissive of those with opposing views when we express our own. I love politics... I love debate and I will engage it in with anyone. IN fact, I often find it enjoyable. I just can't take it when people don't give me basic respect for my opinions or at least try to have some level of objectivity when talking with someone who has the opposing viewpoint. (general commentary, not based on LIW)
