Those who bought dresses - ques/opinions needed

So like any bride I like to check out dresses - this is one thing I am NOT looking forward to (i know, im sick).

Anyway - how many of you went in knowing what dresses you wanted to try on? Did you bring pics with you? or just know the name/style number?

And did you get the style dress you went in there knowing you wanted?? or did you get something totally different??

I keep looking at dresses - and heck yea they look nice on the skinny biatch model but this biatch is not skinny LOL

I went to Macys my first time and just picked out dresses that caught my eye and tried on so many different styles

Truthfully I didn't know what I wanted until I put on a dress and was like I never want to take this off this is my dress

I went on Friday for the first time, and was so worried about it I almost canceled my appointment. I am not skinny like all the models and was concerned about finding a sample that would fit me. I brought in tons of pictures, and they were all basically the same style. I tried one on and hated it. The girl at the store that was helping me was awesome. She knew exactly what would fit my body type. Some dresses fit, and some didn't, but after the first 2 dresses I was so comfortable and really enjoying the experience. I ended up getting my dress - It's a Maggie (pics in my album).

I went to Paradise bridal (ask for an appointment with Danielle). She was awesome!!!

yes the models always look awesome because they are size 0

i wear a size 14 in real life and i think i look pretty darn good - but when i had to go dress shopping i was nervous i would look like Shamu in white.

i ended up buying Ivory which was more flattering to my complexion and they have all sorts of slimming styles to make you look thinner. I know my dress makes me look thinner - an illusion obviously but still makes me feel good.

go try on dresses in plus size samples so you have a better idea of what the dress will look like on. some of the first dresses i tried on are sample size 10 and i couldn't get them past my hips - so you can't really see what it will look like on.

i did bring in pictures and style numbers and i did come out with one of the ones i brought a pic of

whenever I made an appt. to go dress shopping I was usually going there because they carried a specific dress I wanted to try on. On top of that, I would ask them what designers they carried and check out those lines to see if I liked anything else. I would print out the pics and bring them with me and even if they didn't have the exact dress they might have some similar for me to try on to get an idea. It's always good to have pictures or something in mind as far as style when going in.

I went in with nothing the first time!!!! I knew what I wanted, it was actually a large puffy pink dress with pickups!!!! Then after trying on all the pink dresses at Paradise I wasn't really happy about it anymore, then I tried on all the pickup dresses that I was dying to get and they looked awful on my body and weighed about 1,000lbs!!!! Then my mom turned to the Manikin that they has there and said'why don't you try this one on' , so I dd even though I wasn't looking for anything traditional and I fell in love!!!! So it was the first day I tried on dresses and it was prob like the 6th dress I tried on!!!!!!!

I looked a pics and went in with no pictures. I just liked the way Maggie's looked and thought that I would end up with a Maggie. The first dress I tried on was not a MAggie but I loved it and thats the one I bought.

I think its best just to go on and try all diffrent dresses and screw the skinny bishes in the pics. Dress shopping wasnt so bad as I thought it was going to be at all it was actually fun. Just remember a wedding gown is sooooooooooooooo much diffrent then trying on party dresses trust me it just something about them it makes it so much more plesanter.

I went in with pics and HATED all of them when I tried them on! I was convinced that this one pronovias was the one, and I'm pretty small so I thought it would look great. It looked like total crap! The girl helping me was so awesome and picked out a few other things that she thought would look good on me, and she was definitely right! I ended up buying something that I originally would have never tried on!

I went with pics and ended up not liking a single on on me. I really put my trust in the sales girl to help me find something I would like. I ended up with a style of dress that I never would have picked out on my own. Actually, my grandma ended up being the one who picked it out and I had tried it on just to make her happy. Turned out it was the one.

My biggest piece of advise is to go with an open mind. Try on EVERYTHING they throw at you, even if you don't think it is for you. You never know. Good luck and have fun!!!

I Havent gone shopping yet but, i was engaged a few years ago and found a dress i loved online.

b urtons had it so i went in and tried it on and hated it. they picked out a dress for me and i absolutely loved it and that was it.

its good to have an idea, but in reality you might not love it on you. They people at the dress place will know what will look good on you and give you suggestions

Before i actually went dress shopping i looked at a few pictures online to give myself an idea of what was out there, and what i liked and what i didnt like...i brought maybe 2 or 3 pictures with to one of the places, but for the rest, i just asked the bridal attendants to bring out a variety of styles and what they thought would look best of my figure, so i just kept trying dresses on till i found one that i didn't want to take off ..hth : )

I'm a nut and made a book with everything i liked from magazines - it included gowns, bm dresses, flowers (centerpieces, my bouquet, boutonnieres and my girls bouquets), tuxes. Everyone in my family was making fun of me to say the least. But in the end it helped so much. I brought it with me to every vendor and it made life so much easier. I would definitely bring in pictures of dresses you like. Even if the place doesn't have the dresses you are looking for, they will be able to identify the consistency in your taste of dresses.

I went with pictures, but the dresses were all different styles. I also went in with an very short list of requirements that the dress had to meet- it had to have beading on the back/bottom, it had to have a high/natural waist, and it had to be lightweight.

I did not wind up getting any of the dresses in the pictures, nor does it look like the dresses in the pictures. I was describing what I wanted and my eye fell on a mannequin, I was like, 'well, actually, I'd like one just like this!!'

I went in with the pics of dresses I wanted to try on. Of course, they all looked horrible. So i tried on something my friend suggested as well as the sale associate.

It's good to have an idea of what you like, but I would be open to other suggestions as well.
