Those who live in NJ, what town do you live in?

I grew up in Princeton and we are going there this weekend, and may look at houses. Though they aren't any less than houses on LI, the taxes are much less.

What town do you live in in NJ?

I am really interested in this too. We just started looking in Essex county (Montclair, Bloomfield, Verona, Cedar Grove, Maplewood) which are areas that we heard are vey nice, good schools and have good quick transportation to NYC which is important to us.

I am also interested to know if there are any counties that border on the water/Hudson to consider where the commute to NYC would still be about an hour. Any thoughts........

I haven't been there in years (going back this weekend as I said), but the commute from Princeton and Princeton Junction is 45-50 minutes. The trains from there are great! I had a good friend who grew up in Maplewood and loved it. Some surrounding towns weren't so nice but the area itself was beautiful.

Septbride.......I actaully saw a home in Condit Terrace, West Orange that I really like and one in Jones Place....do you know anything about these areas?

Also just a general question cuz I am oblivious...a lot of the home sites list building and land assessements. More times than not the total is a 1/3 if not less than what they are asking for the home...I have noticed this particularly in NJ...is this normal. How do you find out what homes are worth in a given area if you are not too familiar with that area. Looking at the assessments online makes it seem like they are not worth much.

I am in Dunellen, which is on the Somerset / Middlesex Cty border. My commute is about an hour and 10 min. I love where we live, it's affordable and still a cute friendly neighborhood. FM me if you want any info

Try http://www.nj.com/realestate/homesales/

or your real estate agent can run comp. properties.

Just put in the street name and you will see all the houses sold within the last two or three years on that street and for how much.

I'm right near Princeton. We're in South Brunswick--Kendall Park actually. And before we bought our townhouse we lived in Plainsboro. I'm in Princeton all the time for shopping and stuff.

I live in Basking Ridge, NJ..., but live in a condo. My train ride to the city is approx. 1 hr..it's kind of long, but there are soooo many options of condos/townhouses that you can choose from where I live.

Fm me if you are interested.

I'm in a townhouse in Union. The town is alright but we're looking to move. I commute from Maplewood and it's a great town. My commute is quick (about 25 min on an express train, 35 min on a local). We are looking to move to Springfield. Millburn, Livingston, Maplewood, Cranford- those are nice towns too.

I live in Hamilton (near Trenton, Princeton)... it's a 1 hr and 10 minute commute the thc city.
But we just bought new construciton townhouse... it will be built in July. It's in Lumberton (near Moorestown, Cherry Hill)... it's South.
My husband is a teacher in Ocean Township... near the shore.
I love the water and think it's a great area there... Monmouth is really nice too.

I live in Bergen County....Elmwood Park area. I work in NJ also...but for commuting by train, I think it's only about 20 minutes or so. Love it here...just miss my family on LI.

Thanks for the website Kriss2c. We are also stuck between deciding between NJ and LI. We like Marlboro, manalapan, Aberdeen and we also like Oceanside, South Merrick, and South Bellmore. As you can see we are very conflicted!
