Those who were on South beach?

Original post by cherish83

I've been doing South Beach for about 3 weeks, still doing phase one, while not all that strict on the weekends (where one day I go into phase 2). My question is... Do you ever get dizzy? This past sunday I was dizzy all day whenever I would stand up. It got me really nervous since I have heart problems. I should mention the last time I did south beach my heart started racing and I was sweating terribly for hours (this was on the third day)so I stopped.

FH thinks its just the fact of my sugar being low since i'm not eating any sugar or carbs.. Just wanted to know if this was normal. I've been nervous about it since, so I havent been following the diet and I want to get back to doing it, but dont want to do anything bad for myself. Thanks for any advice

I had a lot of issues with being dizzy on south beach. It could be because you incorporate more sugar on the weekend and then it dropped come sunday. My hair also started falling out on southbeach. JJust be careful and dont ignore your symptoms.

Mine is starting to fall out too. Its not that I eat a lot of sugar that one day, but i'll have a serving of bread or fruit if I want it. Would it have that big of an effect? How long did you do south beach for? Was your dizziness because of low sugar?

When you are eating no sugar during the week and then one piece of bread or a piece of fruit afteward your sugar can bottom out. After being on straight phase 1 for over a month i had a piece of melon to reintroduce phase 2 and an 2 hours later i had to have juice to bring my sugar up. I used my dads tester (he has diabetes) and my sugar was at 47 which is low.

you girls are getting me worried, not that im on it but for you guys. Once you are not feeling well and your hair is starting to fall out then PLEASE just get off of it and find a new diet, one that is healthy and you still get all the nutrients your body needs. Not only that but when a diet is so strict you will NOT stick to it for the rest of your life and once you stop you will put on weight very quickly bc your body was used to eating a certain way and adding even just a bit more food will cause you to gain more weight than you normally would. Each time you gain and lose weight you lose muscle so thats why next time you diet it becomes harder to lose the weight.

Reading this thread i am just thinking this diet is too much, sorry but the hair part really scared me. ALso makes me think you REALLY are not getting enough iron. My cousin has a horrible iron deficiency not just a small difference, she is at the lowest you can get at, has to be on alot of medication bc of it and her hair falls out bc of this.

FH started saying this too, that its not healthy for me... I am thinking of trying weight watchers instead , it just seems like a lot more work with trying to figure out how many points things are.

i know alot of ppl doing weight watchers and everyone says its pretty easy. I would look into it and maybe it will make you feel better with the whole point system. Seems to be working great for everyone and with WW you are still getting everything you should be getting. Ive read so many bad things that can happen with no carbs diet, even one of my friends ended up in the hospital after passing out when she was on a no carb diet.

no sorry dont mean to get you nervous. She fainted and ppl called the ambulance, it was bc of her diet. Honestly, no matter what diet youre on, if youre not eating alot and especially if youre out consuming alot of energy it can happen VERY easily. Infact it was in the papers and all over the news when the MTA said that 3 out of 4 people who got sick on a train, you know when they say sick passenger on a train and then theres delays. Well its mostly because of people who havent eaten, who are on these strict diets. They say its mostly women and after asking them questions and everything they find out its bc of this. 3 out of 4 is alot so you can see how common this is. Now whenever theres delays i just think, ahhhh someone didnt eat again

Re: Those who were on South beach?

I think if you moved into Phase 2 completely you might be better off. Phase 1 is menat to only kick start your weight loss and Phase 2 is for continued steady weight loss. I think Phase 1 for 3 weeks is just too much.

WW is always a good option. I've done low-carb and it works fabulously for me...but it's hard to maintain. WW Core is very similar to Phase 2 of South Beach.

If it doesn't make you feel good...don't continue it.

I've been on it for 3 weeks as well, and I haven't really felt dizzy.

I agree with Denise, you gotta eat some red meat and keep those iron levels up.

Hope ya feel better

I heard weight watchers is good too. I would definitely say go for it! Also, are you taking a multi-vitamin? You should just in case you are lacking anything! I am not a huge red meat eater and I've been told that I need to seriously take iron pills so you might consider that if the dizziness continues....

Re: Those who were on South beach?

I'm on day 3 of South Beach and I haven't experienced anything like this. I would talk to your doctor to make sure that South Beach is right for you since there are certain people with health conditions who shouldn't do South Beach. Maybe there is an iron deficiency and you should add an iron pill to your multi-vitamin in the morning.
