Those who were on South beach?

Those who were on South beach?

I've been doing South Beach for about 3 weeks, still doing phase one, while not all that strict on the weekends (where one day I go into phase 2). My question is... Do you ever get dizzy? This past sunday I was dizzy all day whenever I would stand up. It got me really nervous since I have heart problems. I should mention the last time I did south beach my heart started racing and I was sweating terribly for hours (this was on the third day)so I stopped.

FH thinks its just the fact of my sugar being low since i'm not eating any sugar or carbs.. Just wanted to know if this was normal. I've been nervous about it since, so I havent been following the diet and I want to get back to doing it, but dont want to do anything bad for myself. Thanks for any advice

your sugar maybe be going low. but next time you feel that way have 4oz of orange juice, if it makes you feel better it could be your sugar going to low. its not something to ignore if you sugar goes to low you can easily pass out. i kow this from being a diabetic for 25 years.

I had a lot of issues with being dizzy on south beach. It could be because you incorporate more sugar on the weekend and then it dropped come sunday. My hair also started falling out on southbeach. JJust be careful and dont ignore your symptoms.

Mine is starting to fall out too. Its not that I eat a lot of sugar that one day, but i'll have a serving of bread or fruit if I want it. Would it have that big of an effect? How long did you do south beach for? Was your dizziness because of low sugar?

Re: Those who were on South beach?

i have never been on southbeach but when i started eating healthy i cut out all red mead. I was getting dizzy everytime i stood up and just wasnt feeling right. I found out it was bc of my iron level, i had cut out a bit too much so was having an iron deficiency.

I am not familiar with the southbeach diet so not sure if this is the reason why. Dont know what foods you have to eat so not sure if youre getting enough iron or not

When FH mentioned low sugar, I got nervous because diabetes runs in the family and I thought that would mean I had it.. dont ask me why I jumped to conclusions.. I started eating chocolate raisins to get some sugar, but it kept happening. Maybe it wasnt enough sugar.. next time i'll go for the OJ

Hmm that could be it too... I havent been eating much red meat. I was basically eating salads, eggs and chicken for meals.

thats what i was doing, i was eating mostly chicken, some fish and then other typical healthy foods. I would look at the foods you are eating on the southbeach diet and see if you are getting enough redmeat. Its not right to feel this way so make sure you check it out and figure out what the problem is. Once i added grilled steak to my diet it all went away and i was feeling fine

If your sugar goes low dont worry it does not mean you have diabeties

I've been on it for 4 days so far and havent felt dizzy, but I did read about people who do. I dont eat meat at all, so not sure it that would cause dizziness because I havent really experienced it. Do you feel nauseus also? That always happens to me when my blood sugar is low, which is pretty often. I havent really had low blood sugar since I started south beach though.

Okay, I think that makes me feel better. I'm going to try to start it up again tomorrow and make sure I am eating some red meat here and there. You're always so helpful Denise

even if you dont eat meat you can get iron through other sources, problem was that i wasnt even getting it through another source. If redmeat was her main source of getting iron in the past then yes from an iron deficiency you can get dizzy, its what happened to me so yes its possible.

also look up online if anybody went through similar things on this diet and what the cause of their problems were...and look up your symptoms to try and figure it out. It can be low blood sugar or iron deficiency. Feeling like this can be normal when you change your diet completely. Hope you'll feel better soon

So far so good...I dont really miss the carbs yet but I feel like I might be overeating in other areas to compensate

So DH just emails me to tell me that he's eating a blueberry and strawberry tart pie and I'm like WHYYYYYYY are you telling me that???

Oooooooooo its a no carb diet, that makes sense then. Some people experience no problems but some ppl do when doing a no carb diet. Your levels of ketones can increase which is going to cause you to feel dizzy and lose energy

When you are eating no sugar during the week and then one piece of bread or a piece of fruit afteward your sugar can bottom out. After being on straight phase 1 for over a month i had a piece of melon to reintroduce phase 2 and an 2 hours later i had to have juice to bring my sugar up. I used my dads tester (he has diabetes) and my sugar was at 47 which is low.

you girls are getting me worried, not that im on it but for you guys. Once you are not feeling well and your hair is starting to fall out then PLEASE just get off of it and find a new diet, one that is healthy and you still get all the nutrients your body needs. Not only that but when a diet is so strict you will NOT stick to it for the rest of your life and once you stop you will put on weight very quickly bc your body was used to eating a certain way and adding even just a bit more food will cause you to gain more weight than you normally would. Each time you gain and lose weight you lose muscle so thats why next time you diet it becomes harder to lose the weight.

Reading this thread i am just thinking this diet is too much, sorry but the hair part really scared me. ALso makes me think you REALLY are not getting enough iron. My cousin has a horrible iron deficiency not just a small difference, she is at the lowest you can get at, has to be on alot of medication bc of it and her hair falls out bc of this.
