Thought for the day...

Thought for the day...

Okay, so you know sometimes there are 'skinny' mirrors - we have one in our bedroom. I love it! I get dressed in the morning, take a look and think 'Not too bad'

Well, then I get to work and look at myself in the full-length mirror in the ladies' room and most of the time I'm like 'What were you thinking?!?!?' Is it just a fat mirror?

So, if there are skinny mirrors and fat mirrors, how can we know which is which? How can we ever trust any mirror? How can we ever really, REALLY know what we look like for real???????

Perplexing, innit?

When I can't close my pants I know it doesn't matter what kind of mirror I'm looking in ...

so I'm off to the treadmill!!

From what I have found, it is not the mirror itself, but the way it is hung or standing. A mirror that's top leans backward usually makes you look a little bigger than a mirror that's top leans a little forward.

I don't know. It seems all I ever see in my daily life are fat mirrors. I stopped seeing the skinny ones five years ago.

Maybe they were taken off the market or something like that.

Old Navy has THE WORST mirrors. So I usually just buy stuff and try it on at home.
I have never been able to buy a bathing suit there because you see every flaw in their mirrors.

oh yeah, lighting is important. Some stores have really harsh lighting (I remember Express and Victoria's Secret had the worst). Even when I was much thinner, I saw every flaw in the lighting in their dressing rooms.

I'm with Wendy on this - no mirror can help me close my pants......so they're all evil!

I had a really good skinny mirror a few years ago, and when I was moving my Dad broke it....I could have killed him on the spot!!!

My brother used to have 'skinny' mirrors and he took them when he moved

Farah, that's why you should approach strangers on the street and demand their opinions on your outfits!

I don't think that would awkward at all!

I'm with you! I don't need a scale or mirrors...my pants are the best indicator of my gained weight.

your post sounds very carrie bradshaw!! lol not the subject matter so much, but how it was worded.

my advice, only look in the mirror you like, then only use a compact to check out the rest throughout the day! mirrors....theyre everywhere!!

I just got back from the ladies' again...and the thing about me is that I'm one of those people who look very narrow from the front...but I'm VERY 3-dimensional from the side.

I'm like a reverse Dolly Pop!

Only look from the front,
only look from the front,
only look from the front,
only look from the front

Farah, I'm totally the same way!

Our ladies room mirror is very nice to me when I'm looking at it head on - it's when I'm brave enough to venture a peek at my profile that I want to throw the sink at it!

I don't think I'm well proportioned at all - I'm petite from the waist up, but I have a huge butt!! I'm convinced that my lower half and upper half were switched at birth with someone else!

How true! I stopped seeing the skinny mirrors a LOOONG time ago as well ..

Pretty sad that to say that when I look in the skinny mirror I'm STILL none too svelte!

I was just in The Limited and their mirrors are terrible. They were such obvious skinny mirrors...I wasn't sure if I should have bought the stuff I bought. I still didn't try on the stuff I bought at home to see the difference..

Oh, Felicia, I meant to tell you taht I was talking to my mom over the weekend - she often lurks on LIW - and you're name come up and she said 'Oh, she's sooo attractive! She looks so pretty in her wedding pictures!' And, I'm thinkin' you look pretty svelte in that avatar, missy!

Helena, I've got the backside and the top too...but no hips to balance it all out...*sigh* But, I'm doing better now - I'm in week 5 of Body for Life. It's kicking my a$$...but making it a wee bit smaller at the same time

Farah can I just say that I love your Mom She is Felicia too, right? Tell her thank you I needed an serious self-image boost lately .... does she want to adopt another daughter Though I am NOT the LIWs 'hottie' so really how can I compare?

Seriously , my avatar pic is totally deceiving and I only put it up to inspire me to get somewhat back to that shape I was only a mere 6 months ago

Please notice i have shorts covering my fat, flabby posterior - I have a big time booty that I dont go around showing off! Mind you that was also taken on our HM when I was still relatively slim from all the pre-wedding working out and dieting. Now, I'm a much bigger person entirely.

DH tried Body for Life and was really happy with that program , but fell off the wagon. He's about to go on it again - he loves the way he feels on it! You probably look amazing already

And I would KILL for having 'no hips' !!!

Re: Thought for the day...

I don't trust our mirrors at home b/c I look different in all of them. If we are going somewhere imporant and I want to make sure I look exceptionally good, I make DH take a digital photo of me. (I can't believe I just admitted that...)
