These past few years have been shocking for me, and I would think for most of you too - I spent such a happy, safe childhood never even imaging such horrible things could ever happen in this world. But if nothing else, Sept. 11th, the Tsunami at Christmastime and now, this morning's terrorist attacks, have taught me that anything can and will happen.
I spent half of this morning thinking that my husband was dead. Thank god I was finally able to get in touch with him to find he and his colleagues were safe and sound. I'm not looking for pity or for hugs or anything. I just want everyone to think about how they live their lives. Don't take any days for granted. When I hadn't heard from DH this morning I thought about how I was half asleep when he walked in last night and I didn't bother to get up and greet him and talk to him before he came to bed. I thought about how he nearly left this morning without saying goodbye because he was running late, and how I nearly let him go, but I yelled at the last minute, No Kiss? and he came running back up the steps to give me one.
Please, don't let today go by without telling those people who need to hear it that you love them. Please don't bicker with your loved ones over things that don't really matter in the long run. Don't not take public transportation because you're scared. Please go on your trips to Europe or on your honeymoon and make memories to last forever.

Re: Thought for the day
My heart and thoughts go out to you today. Glad that you and your DH are safe.
What you said is important. We never know what's coming around the corner and while we can't live in fear, we do have to show those that we care about in our lives how much they mean to us.

So glad to hear that your husband is safe and sound. I couldn't agree with your thoughts more. It is so important to let those we love know our feelings. Life is so short and precious.

Re: Thought for the day
So true. And we do need to be reminded once in a while that no day can be taken for granted.
Unfortunately, my childhood has been terrorism/acts of horror.
The first WTC attack, Oklahoma City, Columbine, 9/11, and many many more. My college roomie was in Madrid, ON A TRAIN, for teh bombings there. My best friend (since we're 4) was across the street from the WTC on 9/11, and walked across teh brooklyn bridge covered in dust.
I'm 22 years old, and I've had to live with this for the majority of my life. It's just plain scary, and it makes me so nervous to bring children into this world. CAll me pessimistic, but i believe it will only get worse.

While I tend to be more along the lines of thinking like this...I hold Farah's words as an ideal and a reminder to not let these events take hold of me through fear.

I agree - fear is weakness.
I can't help feeling the way I do (what I wrote) - but Farah's message of truly LIVING every day is a great one, and so eloquently put.

It's so true. It really hits home to know someone so close there, and is a reminder to make up with DH when you are fighting, kiss before he goes to work, etc.

Farah, so well said. For all the moments your heart sinks because the phone rings in the middle of the night or DH is late coming home or you hear sirens in the distance, you have to have the moments when he touches your hair and you kiss hello and wake up with a grin.

How is everything now--are they telling everyone to stay in, or are they letting people on the streets?

When you get home, you two will be the quiet center of the universe!
