I don't like how 'adult only' sounds. Reminds me of a tree house sign, haha like adults only no kids allowed.

Most people in NY have the sense not to bring a newborn, but if its OOT guests you're worried about maybe something like 'Formal adult reception to follow'

Crashing! People in NY do not have the sense not to bring a newborn! When mom's breastfead they can get wuerd about leaving the baby. At a friends wedding a girl brought he'd newborn and then proceeded to breast feed at the table! !!!!

This is why I worry!!! HELLO! lol

I already had people ask if their babies can come, and honestly I was very taken back by it. I didn't think it was very fair to me for them to put me on the spot like that.

So since that happened I added '__ seats have been reserved in your honor' on the invites. And then I will fill in the amount they are welcome to bring.

So don't be surprised, but people in NY do do that!

maybe I will fill in the seats then............. I always thought that sounded kinda rude, but it's way more rude to show up with your baby IMO.

I totally agree! You should never assume that your child is invited to the wedding unless the invite specifically states '& family', but yet there are people out there who do. Like others have said, address the envelope to the invited guests and definitely include on the invite 'Formal adult reception to follow' or 'Adult reception to follow. Formal attire.' I will be including either one of these on my own invites. The 'formal attire' is directed at my FH's family because they are VERY casual people. I just don't want any of his cousins showing up with a NASCAR jacket on because he definitely went to a family wedding where that happened!! Another idea would be to include that its an adult only reception on your wedding website, if you have one. This would definitely let your guests know ahead of time that they should be prepared to get a babysitter!

LOL @ nascar jacket, but I hear you!

My brother in law is from the deep South and wears Cowboy Boots to fancy occasions. If it were up to him, he would wear dark blue jeans and a white shirt to my wedding, but thankfully my sister makes sure he wears dress pants with those boots.

I wish I could do that! My FMIL never asked and since everyone is from OOT, I figured whatever.. she can have kids, but I told her her invite number is SOLID.

And for wording... I would put 'Black Tie Optional.' To avoid boots... jeans... etc. Even with black tie optional.. not everyone will dress 'appropriately'..
