Thoughts on 'Trash the Dress'?

Thoughts on 'Trash the Dress'?

For me, I could never see myself doing that. Too much money and it's too special. I plan to either keep it to do something with it, ie, Baby Quilt or something.. or donate it to Brides Against Breast Cancer, so someone else can enjoy it.

Yeah, I def would never want to trash the dress!! Do people really do that??

I would either donate it or save it for any future daughters that I might have (not that they'd wear it anyway, but it would be nice to show them)

Would it be obnoxious to wear it every year on our anniversary until I can't fit into it anymore?

here is one trash the dress photo shoot i found...basically its a photoshoot in your wedding dress and actually doing things in it you wouldn't be able to do on your wedding day, like laying in dirt, going in the water and things like that...i wouldnt be able to do it with my dress lol but some ppl actually said they would do it but buy a real cheap dress to do it in

Those photos looks so artistic! It makes sense to have an alternative dress, like she had, to do the shoot. Very nice...

why do that and pay for yet another photo shoot and more pics? when you could prob sell the dress right after the wedding and make some $$ back if you really wanted to

i guess for some ppl they like having these memories or having an experience like this. Everyone is different and feels differently about how they spend money. Although i can make money selling my dress after i probably wont want to, its stupid but id rather have it. To each their own. For me i like having things like this, i was thinking oh i want to do boudoir shots, and then i saw this and loved the idea, although i would use another dress not mine lol. Then i also think of day after pics which id probably rather have than a trash the dress shoot...money comes and goes but these are memories that will last with us forever

imo, thats something that people would look back on in 20 yrs and say omg... what a retarded/wasteful trend... what other time would someone spend 800-1000 + on an article of clothing and say lemme just completely trash it... or even getting an 'imitation' gown and doing a shoot... still stupid to me... i dont see how that could be a good memory.... you once looked at your gown as a thing of beauty, symbolizing your marriage and then going to destroy it which i equate with a bad memory.... is it just me

my mom made such a great point the other day.... when i told her how much i was budgeting for photo and video, she told me i was insane and that honestly, how often does she actually go into the closet and look at her wedding album... to spend a redic amt of $$ of this stuff isnt even worth it when we could be saving some for a house... it made me see the light and to actually think that people spend even more $$ on a trash the dress shoot ... i dunno... what will they think of next???? anything to make a buck....

i understand you feel differently and i respect that bc its your opinion but remember everyone is different and what is good for one person isn't always good for everyone else, its good that not everyone is the same bc it would be a boring world. The people who did it are obviously happy with it so thats all that really matters, the same way there are things you do that others wouldn't agree with but im sure you wouldnt care about their opinion as long as you are happy with your decision, i mean this is something we ALL deal with during wedding planning, people criticize things we pick and how we do things and we all hate when this happens to us. Personally I would NEVER trash my dress, i would buy one for $99 at davids bridal or something lol, although i much rather prefer day after pics, and dont think i will look back 20 years from now at pictures of me and FH and think how stupid.

Obviously this is a thing that is for some people and not for others, if you dont like it then simply dont do it. To others they dont always think about the money aspect when it comes to certain things, so i just say whatever makes the person happy, if i lived my life according to everyones opinions i wouldnt be too happy...I probably wont ever end up doing 'trash the dress' session but hey if thats what someone else wants to do good for them.

I dont really understand why you got so angry about this topic lol, OP just asked about it and i posted pictures to show what it is

are you ok? i didnt know you were venting and dont know why? its just a photoshoot if you dont like it just say its not your thing, doesnt mean you have to get mad about others doing it. Have a goodnight and dont let it upset you

this post kinda explains the venting...sorry if your mom maybe upset you a little by changing your plans about photography...but remember everyone is in different situations, some couples dont have to save up for a house bc they already have a house, theres quite a few ppl on LIW who already own their houses. I own an apartment so i dont think that way, when i want to get a house i'll sell mine and use the money i get towards a house. But if you are saving for a house then yes you have to cut corners so its understandable, but like i said remember everyones situation is different.

My parents have SOOO few pictures i wish they had more, they dont even have a handful they were at my grandmothers and i dont know what happened to them, i wish i could see pics from their wedding.

opinions opinions!!

you never know what picutes mean until you dont have them anymore.

my parents lost ALL of their wedding pictures when our house went on fire in 1990. Thats memories that you never get back.
Yes you will never forget that day, but when you look at pictures it helps spark more good memories of the day.
