Thoughts on what happened at a wedding I was at....
So, the couple are high school sweethearts 9 years. They share a mutial best friend who is a guy. Anyways, friend got extremely drunk at the wedding(I think in the limo so be careful about the booze on the way) but not making a scene or anything. Anyway, the reception hall asked him to leave. This is the best friend of these 2 and people were taking care of him. The couple told him to stay and the reception hall over rode them and kicked him out. It was sort of a scene. He was sobering up in a chair surrounded by friends not doing anything. Would you flip out at your reception hall for kicking him out. This guy means a lot to them.

I would be VERY UPSET!! Especially if he was not making a scene or destroying things... After all it was a party did they think people would not be drinking? If they did not approve of his partying then they should of write that into the contract somehow limit of drinks...diclosure of escorting people out if they have drank to much ....or something. of course I may be a bit miffed at my friend for not handling himself properly at my wedding also.

what exactly did he do to get kicked out. You can't just kick someone out for drinking. Something must have happened. Maybe they cut him off and he got rude, i don't know. But i would be mad at my friend for getting that drunk. I would also be mad at the hall if i thought that he wasn't causing a scene.

My RH already knows if ANYONE gets to be a bit tooooo intoxicated they are to be escorted out. I just think it's unnecessary, the day is for the bride and groom. People should be paying attention to them not taking care of someone who can't hold there liquor. Sorry JMHO.

He is a liability to the RH so they have every right to stop serving and asking him to leave -- whether or not he is causing a scene.
would I be upset yes, but do I understand their side -- yes.

I agree that I would be upset if I were the bride and groom...however...you don't know if there was more to the story. He was definately a liability for the RH, as said earlier. I really hope this is not an issue at our wedding...I would be devastated.

He definitely blended in...he wasn't the problem it was the staff. I saw how it all happened because I was at the 'friend's' table. He was drunk for sure but quiet and respectful. The staff was out of line especially when the bride and groom begged him to back off since he wasn't doing anything.

honestly i'd be a little annoyed that a friend got kicked out.. where i'm from.. drinks go like water.. and i'd like the RH to curb some people's intake but i know in the end it won't happen..
as long as the scene will be taken care of w/o disrupting the rest of the party, i don't think it i would have a problem..
eta: i've actually never seen or heard a RH actually kicking someone out.. especially if they were behaving well.. that's some gaul

I would be very upset. The bride and groom paid for that person to be there and i dont think the RH has the right to just throw someone out if their not doing anything wrong. Now, if they were doing something unruly or acting out of control, or something like that then i can see the RH's point.

If he wasn't doing anything to ruin the RH or making a scene, then I dont see why they had to step in. How is it their business?? That's ridiculous. I could see if the couple ASKED for him to be escorted out, but seeing how they wanted him to stay AND he wasn't causing trouble, where's the harm in it? Sounds like the RH was being a little bit 'drama-queenish.'

How old are they that they can't control liquor? I can see it happening at a 'young' wedding where guest are all late teens or early 20's and it's a big drinking party, but otherwise cannot imagine it. We have a few friends that are drinkers and know that they will not do this because it's our day and before I'd help someone clean up their vomit on OUR wedding day, I'd tell them to leave and if they refused, I'd have my dad carry him out with my brothers!

Re: Thoughts on what happened at a wedding I was at....
It all depends on the circumstances- if the guy was just drunk and sitting around then I would be PISSED if he was escorted out- if he was acting like a jerk- then he is lucky it isnt me escorting him out!~!!

Re: Thoughts on what happened at a wedding I was at....
Let's be honest here. If he was quiet, respectful, and just sitting down at a table minding his own business, how did the RH even know he was drunk? It doesn't make any sense. Someone must have seen him getting sick somewhere, or do the 'drunk walk' (moving a step a minute, teetering, etc.) which is embarrassing and uncomfortable for everyone to watch, or else he was too loud and disruptive before he sat down at your table so quietly and respectfully...
There's more to the story here. I'm inclined to agree with you - if the couple wanted him to stay, the RH should have escorted him to a quiet room with some water and coffee to chill out for a little bit. But you're not presenting the story fairly, so it's hard to say what I think the RH should have done.
