Thoughts on what happened at a wedding I was at....

Original post by junebridek08

So, the couple are high school sweethearts 9 years. They share a mutial best friend who is a guy. Anyways, friend got extremely drunk at the wedding(I think in the limo so be careful about the booze on the way) but not making a scene or anything. Anyway, the reception hall asked him to leave. This is the best friend of these 2 and people were taking care of him. The couple told him to stay and the reception hall over rode them and kicked him out. It was sort of a scene. He was sobering up in a chair surrounded by friends not doing anything. Would you flip out at your reception hall for kicking him out. This guy means a lot to them.

No. I would be pissed at the friend for being an a$$hole at my wedding and ruining my day.

Couldn't have said it better myself... The reception hall is responsible for all that attend and if they felt that he was disruptive or could get hurt/hurt someone else (not intentional) then they have a right to override you.

I think you have to do more than sit in a chair to get kicked out of an event. Maybe he was being loud or obnoxious? Maybe he was rude to the staff? Either way, I would be pissed at my friend -- I don't think it's okay to get trashed at a wedding. Now their day is ruined because of it.

I would be upset if he was fine and not bothering anyone. If he was being obnoxious and knocking things over, then I could see them throwing him out.

yes you are payin gfor the time there they have no right to kick out one of your guests unless they were damaguing items or hurting someone!!

i would be pisseddddddddddddd

exactly!!!!!!

i would be very upset!!!!

they reserve the right to stop serving him of course and if he was a danger or making a scene or something like that then yes escort him out...... but if he is wasted in a chair with other guest tending to him they have no right to ask him to leave your wedding.

there could be more to the story and i dont like to judge based on part of a story but if that is all that happened, then i would be pissed

I really hope that this does not happen at any of the weddings I go to or my own. I have mixed feelings about it.

If he wasn't doing anything wrong and I wanted him to stay, yes- I would have been pissed!!!!

However, I agree with manny of you that people should not get overly drunk at a wedding to the point of not being able to function. Thats just tacky. And the hall def has a right to cut someone off at the bar!

Let's be honest here. If he was quiet, respectful, and just sitting down at a table minding his own business, how did the RH even know he was drunk? It doesn't make any sense. Someone must have seen him getting sick somewhere, or do the 'drunk walk' (moving a step a minute, teetering, etc.) which is embarrassing and uncomfortable for everyone to watch, or else he was too loud and disruptive before he sat down at your table so quietly and respectfully...

There's more to the story here. I'm inclined to agree with you - if the couple wanted him to stay, the RH should have escorted him to a quiet room with some water and coffee to chill out for a little bit. But you're not presenting the story fairly, so it's hard to say what I think the RH should have done.

completely agree!

This is why I posted this because I am getting married in June and this is a friend of FH so the crowd will be pretty much the same. Of course I don't want my wedding to be a drunk fest but let's be real...people drink at weddings. I would be devasted if my RH went over my head and kicked him out. The guy who was on his high horse was a real meathead and I think he was being a jerk cause he could. Honestly, the friend WAS quiet, respectful, and just sitting down at my table minding his own business, He was really embarrassed. The RH knew he was drunk because we were all tending to him. He wasn't drinking there at all so there was no words exchanges, puking etc. He may have been a little wobbly but not noticeble to anyone. He was doing shots in the limo and I guess it hit him. I really think we all need to be careful about the limo ride. Trust me, if he was out of line I personally would have had someone get rid of him. Nobody even noticed except the wedding party who are his friends. There really is not much more to the story here. I am just glad I am not getting married there!! I almost did and so many people on this board are.
