i have a odd situation. im a BM in a wedding coming up in may. the MOH has gone AWOL--her status is unknown at this point.
i want to throw her a bridal shower(because she deserves one!) but im unsure of the proper etiquette. ive heard of some showers that all BM chip in and others where the hostess pays for it in full. i dont know if this makes a difference but im closely related to bride.
any advice and locations (cheap but good food) welcomed!

my mom is paying for mine..but if the mother of the bride is awol you can throw it for her..what about having it at your house and the bridesmaids each making food? that way you can keep the costs down and still make it nice and intimate!
This is exactly what I want my BM's to do for me. I don't want them spending a lot.

This!! Mom or a family member sometimes throw the shower but if they don't it's the BM's responsibilty. I had to educate my sister on this just the other day LOL

I don't think there is a 'rule' anymore. My mother paid for mine, but I also have a friend who was MOH in a wedding and had to pay for the whole ($2000) shower!!! The girl's mother refused to chip in saying it was MOH's duty...I think that was wrong and I don't think their friendship was the same after that. She wasn't even in the bridal party for her wedding although she did attend the wedding.

My mom paid for most of mine... my BMs chipped it... i would discuss it with her mom and the rest of the BP and figure something out.

Re: throwing a bridal shower, who pays??
my mom paid for my whole shower
but ive been in BPs where as a BM i had to contribute, but it was never all on me
my shower was at the fox hollow in the somerley room when it first opened and it was $35pp plus tax and grat - not sure if the price has changed but they have a 'shower package'
also, if you want something cheaper, there is an italian place in dix hills that has a private room that is $25pp called Spuntino. food is excellent, service is good. i had my RD there

I don't think there is one correct answer, it varies depending on the situation. My mother is throwing my shower, that was her choice. I would suggest speaking with your sister and let her know you would like to host her shower. I think that is a lovely thing for you to do.
