I am considering a Thursday evening at FH Somerley (because of price), but am worried my guests will leave half way through.
Anyone else planning a Thursday wedding, or have been to one? It wouldn't be until Fall 2015, so everyone would have PLENTY of time to plan for time off, etc. Just worried...
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Thursday Night?
I went to a Thursday wedding last year. Even though you have time to plan for time off of work doesn't mean you can take off. I left early because I had to work the next day. So yes people will leave early and a bunch won't come because it's on a thursday.

I was just having a discussion about this yesterday because a friend of mine is in a bridal party next Thursday. Her boyfriend was complaining about it.. He has to work the next day regardless.. They need the money and he uses vacation time for actual vacations. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who feel the same way. But regardless, the people who want to be there will be there and will have a great time. You do run the risk of people leaving early though.. So maybe doing a twilight wedding? Where it starts a little earlier so it doesn't end after midnight, but rather at like 10-10:30?

I think it depends on the Thursday. My cousin had the Thursday before the 4th of July weekend a few years ago. People that could take off the next day did and some did leave early but depending on timing of the recpetion you might be able to have less people leave. I would've done a Thursday wedding if it worked with our schedule, Sunday just worked out better for us. So yes think about your guests, but think about the two of you as well and what is realistic for you both. Good luck and it's kind of like a destination wedding, those that really want to be there will make it happen.

I went to one last year and left right after dinner because I couldn't take the next day off...

My sister had her wedding on a Monday afternoon (did the Town hall thing and at a restaurant afterward.) I think dinner was over around 7ish. Everybody who was invited showed up (I think it was around 60ppl). She also planned the wedding in less than 3 months.
Bottom line, people who want to be there, will be there.

I think it depends on the guests. Some people can request days off at work without a problem and some people can't. Just like rcotter90 said whoever wants to be there will be there.

I agree that whoever will want to be there will make it happen. We had this same problem with a Friday wedding. FH's parents still don't agree with it. But we did it because we couldn't see spending +$3000 to have the exact same wedding a day later. You should do what's right for you!
If most of your guests are local, you may have a better turn out.

I am having a Thursday night wedding, although mine is the day before a holiday. My cousin did the same a few years back and didn't have any issues with it- she encouraged me to do it too.
I think having a twilight wedding would work well so more people could stay. You are paying a lot of money for a beautiful place: to have people leave early wouldn't be ideal! Plus, I would think Fox Hollow would be more accommodating with timing for you, since you are giving them business on a Thursday.
If you are flexible, you may want to consider having it the day before a holiday, such as the Sunday before Labor Day and/or Columbus Day. Affordability wise, I highly recommend it! Although I don't know the prices for those days so I could be totally wrong, but it's maybe something to look at.
No matter what, as many have already said, and what a lot of people told me, is those people who mean the most to you are going to come no matter what.

I say don't worry about other people. It's your day, you do YOU.

I agree the people that want to be there are going to cme no matter what - so do what you want!
Just a note about the Sunday before holidays. Alot of the venues I met with charge different prices (more similar to a Friday night) for those Sundays because they know that people are off. So I would just make sure you are getting the true Sunday pirce

I think it's fine to have a Thursday. Honestly I can be out until 11-12ish and function at work the next day so I don't see why other people can't for such an important day. Also do many people work Saturdays also so Fridays are the same thing.

This exactly. I wanted a Friday night wedding, to save money. But FH works retail and a lot of the people he works with wouldn't be able to get off at the same time and all have to work Saturday morning. The same can also be said for a Sunday night wedding, for people who have to work Monday morning. Saturday night weddings aren't the most expensive by coincidence.
You do whatever works for you. As the girls above have said, the important people who want to be there will be there. If it's what works best for you, go for it.

Yes. This was our plan initially.. To have our wedding the Sunday before either Labor Day or Columbus Day. The majority of venues we saw were either charging Saturday night prices for those Sundays or the difference between Saturday and Sunday.

How much is the Somerley up to these days? Just curious because we booked it before it was finished. LOVED that room though. It's worth it. We did a Friday night (4th of July though - so nearly all of our guests had off) though. It's a beautiful room - I'm biased though lol.

I would say to just consider your guest list. If you have a lot of people that are local it probably won't be much of a problem. I think if a lot of your guest list is traveling from out of state it might be a problem with them taking off a few days at work. We ended up choosing the Sunday before Memorial day because the price was more reasonable than saturday and the minimum was lower. Since a lot of our guest list was traveling from out of state we figured Sunday would be more convenient than a Friday, but it really depends on your guests.
