Re: Thursday night weddings?

I would of had a thursday night wedding over a sunday wedding. If you think about it....if you give your guests plenty of notice....They would much rather if they had too take off friday from work and make a three day weekend out of it.... I mean people have sunday evening weddings and people have to take off on a monday....I would rather take off on a friday. I am having my wedding on Labor day!! and we are very happy about it and saved tons of money!! You just need plenty of notice!

I have 2 this summer. I feel like it's the new friday. I kind of like the idea b/c it turns into a long weekend for the guests...providing they can take off. In my case, I get a few summer fridays so I won't even have to take my vacation time.
For both that I'm attending, I will take off friday to recover and then I still have Sat and Sun.

I much prefer a Sunday night wedding over a Thursday night wedding.

Guests might have to leave work early on Thursday or even take the day off.
May leave the reception early, because they have work the next day.

Re: Thursday night weddings?

my close friend got married on a thursday night. All i could say is that by 10, 10:30 it was very empty. Yes guests know ahead of time when and where the wedding is, but to get to ur ceremony or even a 7:00 cocktail hour they leave work early to get there somewhat on tima after showering, hair makeup and getting dressed... And then they either take off Friday or leave early b/c they have to now travel to get home to go to bed. i am jut beoing honest. i iwas very surprrised the amount of pwople that left early.

I've been to a Thursday night wedding. My feeling is, a wedding is always going to be fun, no matter what night it is. That being said, finishing up work and heading to a wedding means the guests might be less energetic at the reception. Having work the next morning means some guests might check out early.

Exactly what I was going to say.

I agree with you.....my preference in this order would be Saturday, Friday, Sunday, Thursday.

I think people will go and have fun to weddings no matter what. There are pros and cons to a thurs. or a sun. wedding. For me, I thought Sunday would be better for most of my guests. For OOTs we could spend a long week together as a family reunion type of thing before the wedding. Then on monday we are going to have a farewell brunch. I think yes, people could take of friday and have a long weekend as well. However not everyone can take off friday. You have to consider when is the ceremony going to begin. If it's earlier people may not be able to get out of work that early. Rush hour traffic on long island is horrific! And also consider how late the reception will be. There's a lot to consider with both Sunday and Thursday weddings so consider all your options and pick which will work out best for you. People will celebrate with you no matter what!

ETA: For me Thursday, Fri, and Sat. were not good! My MOH is going to be doing Saturday clinicals for school on Saturdays and would have to rush to make it to the pictures and ceremony!

I went to a Thursday night wedding....they had about 115 people and we all had a great time....I left at about midnight, and her reception was still packed!

Thursday wouldn't be my preference, but I think what's important is what works best for you. If that's what you can do, that's what you should do. Keep in mind that some people won't be able to make it. For various reasons, mostly being that my husband is in the military and planning is difficult, we got married in January. Not necessarily ideal but it was what worked for us. In our situation his entire side and a lot of mine were from out of town so I really felt I needed a Saturday since there was a lot of travel involved. If you have a lot of out of town guests just keep in mind that a lot of people might need to take off 2-3 days of work for the wedding, depending on where they're coming from. Again, it should be what works for you and if some people can't make it, so be it. That was my attitude.

There are plenty of brides on here that are getting married on a Thursday night! One hall we met with tried to cajole us into getting married on a Thursday but it just wasn't for us. If I had to choose I'd pick a Sunday over Thursday, not that there is much difference between the two people still have to go to work the next day.

My MOH got married on a Thursday, it was a great wedding.

(but it was the day before July 4th, which fell on Friday that year ... so everyone had a 3 day weekend already)

we're having a thusday wedding! There are pros and cons as with anything else and in the end you pick what works best for you but we are happy with our decision. Any questions fell free to FM me!

I attended a Thursday night wedding a few years ago and had a blast. I did leave about a hour early though b/c it would take about 30 minutes to get home and I needed to get up for work. I had a great time though.

Hi girls... my FH is of course reading over my shoulder while watching ultimate fighting and from his (Polish) perspective he said that weddings should really only be held on saturdays. (His family was even raising eyebrows when we told them we were having a sat afternoon wedding, rather than evening) Customarily, sat they party all day, and on sunday, the party continues at someones home all day and night.

From my perspective, I think sunday is also totally fine and interchangeable with sat, but thurs and fri are very difficult for those who live far away, and would require 1-2 days off from work.... that would likely be fine for close family, since they'd take off anyway, but for those outside of the innermost circle of friends and family, it may be an inconvenience, or very fatiguing....

I think it really depends upon your crowd. If you have a large group of fun people, your wedding could be on a Tuesday afternoon and still be a blast.

I wouldn't do a Thursday if you have a large OOT group. I think that's too much to ask people to take off of work for (IMO).

Re: Thursday night weddings?

Thats a tough call! I feel like it depends on how close to everyone the wedding is. I live in the city but we are getting married at Eastwinds which is about 1 1/2-2 hours from the city... so if my friends were coming from the city on Thursday they would have to take a half day on Thursday and take all day friday off, or they would prob leave the party at 10 to get home at a somewhat decent hour. But if everyone lives/works 20 min from the ceremony then it is a completely different situation. But regardless- your friends and family will have a blast and YOU will have the time of your life and thats all that matters!
