Thursday Reception?

What do you think about a Thursday evening wedding? There's a significant price difference in the place i want to book and i am seriously considering it...

personally, i wouldnt want to do it because people have work that day, and work the next day and wont really enjoy our wedding at all and will prob leave way early, so although your getting a huge price difference you and your guests will enjoy it much more on say a friday (still cheap) or a sunday.

i just kinda think of it as money not well spent JMHO

From what I hear thursdays are the new fridays. I think if most of your guest are not from OOT then go for it! However it may be hard for some people from OOT to make it if they're comming from far and have to work the next day. If budget is very tight I would def. consider it b/c there is a big difference. But also look into afternoons and off peak seasons like jan-march, you can also get really good deals

I think its hard because people would most likely have to take off from work on Friday morning, or leave early on a Thursday afternoon.

We choose to get married in January and we saved a lot of $$$$$. We got a sat evening in January for 1/2 the price of a Sat evening June. We could have gotten an even cheaper price on Friday evening night in January/Feb. I would look to move your date.

If you can find a national holiday on a friday then book a thursday asap.

That's my thoughts.

I agree totally. I knew someone who got married on a Thursday and when we found out the day everyone's reaction was 'THURSDAY????' and then you realize they did it to cut costs... but the guests will have work that day and the day after and you can't expect everyone to take off both days. JMO.
I think that if it were a more intimate wedding with just super close family and friends and no one was looking to really party it up.. then that might be a different story... but this wasn't how my wedding was going to be or how I picture it to be like. I'd rather Friday night over Thursday. I would even go for Sunday over Thursday... actually here is a list of preferences...
Sat
Fri
Sun
Thurs.

If I were invited to a wedding on Thurs.. unless it was someone I was really close to there's more of a chance I would decline the invitation. I don't get home from work until 7pm and have to be up by 630 am.... so i wouldn't appreciate a Thurs wedding.

I think you should do what works best for you. If a friend mine had a thursday wedding of course I would go, I would prefer a saturday or friday but whatever I would still enjoy myself. Personally though I would not have one but thats my preference everyone has to do what they are comfortable with

my cousin had a thurs eve wedding at the fox hollow a few yrs ago. Let me tell you, he saved a TON of $$$$. Everyone who really truly wanted to be there ...was.
Yea, maybe we all didnt drink as heavily and partied as hard, but it was still a really nice wedding, and we had a good time. I would do it.

I've been to 2 Thursday weddings in the past couple of years. Yes, it's a pain with work, but I took a half a day on Thursday afternoon and another half day on Friday morning, so it wasn't so bad.

You have to do what is within your budget and what makes you comfortable.

FSIL had a thursday night wedding, and although some people weren't able to make it, the majority did and she got the venue she wanted for a great price and she was able to get some extras she didn't think she could afford

Go for the Thursday.

These are tough economic times and everyone who want to be there and can be there will. It would be nice for it to be on a Saturday but it is what it is. My friend got married on a Tuesday and almost everyone went.

Don't worry.

If your on a tight budget then go for it, have you looked into a Sunday night wedding? When i was looking i found the price per person to be around $5 dollars then a Saturday wedding.

I would do it. I agree with the above poster- Thursday over Sunday in my book. I would probably take a 4 day weekend....just give people enough notice and they will do what they have to.

You might not get a huge turn out at the ceremony but overall, I would go for it!

Re: Thursday Reception?

I just changed to a Thursday Evening. It makes sense for me because my original wedding date is the same exact date as the Thursday we got married in 2007. My family in NY came to ATL to be here on a Thursday-so I don't see what the big deal is.
I went to a Thursday wedding in NY and I live in ATL and there was a big turn out for this thursday wedding. I got advanced notice so it was nothing for me to take the days off- all because she was a dear friend and I wanted to be there. You cant put other peoples preferences over your own! Its your wedding-you will drive yourself crazy trying to accommodate others and not yourself!! If they love you-the day wouldn't matter.

I plan on sending my STD out 1 year before, so there is ample time to make arrangements.

I say go for it!
The ppl who want to be there will be no matter date time or location just as long as they have advance notice!

Its your wedding do what make you & FH happy!

Im getting married on a Thursday and my ceremony is 8pm. Anyone who can't make it or has a problem with the day can stay home. I don't think that it should matter the day of the week it is. If they care enough they will be there. Plus it's on a holiday week so it won't be a big deal to take off the next day wich is a Friday anyway. Plus OOT guest can make it into a mini vacation. Go for it.

Re: Thursday Reception?

I'm getting married on a Thursday in the the summer. We're having a large wedding and the only way we could pull it off was either a Thursday or Sunday. We chose Thursday because then people only have 1 day to get through if they have to work, rather than an entire week. Also, because it is summer we know a lot of people who will take a long weekend. It's a hard decission to make, but you have to do what is best for you and your situation. We couldn't turn down paying 1/2 of what we would have for a saturday wedding. Good luck!!!
