Re: Thursday Wedding
My roommate just went to one...she said everybody complained about it to each other, but in the end they were happy to be there for the couple and that they would have gone anyway if it were Monday, Tuesday, or any other day.

Re: Thursday Wedding
I was a bm for my cousin who had a thursday night wedding... It was the weekend after a holiday which was annoying and had all OOTers for her husband's side! It was sad , but a lot of people left before/just after cake so they could get up for work in the morning. I still partied on but went to work with only 2 hours sleep!

Re: Thursday Wedding
I've been to one. It was a July 5th wedding. It was an inconvenience because just because I had wednesday off, didn't mean I had thursday or Friday off. They did for OOTers to be more convenient. It was ok. Though I had previously been to a wedding at the same place on a weekend and the service paled in comparison. I've been to them all...weddings that start at 6pm on a sunday and ones on noon on Monday.
Doesn't matter what day of the week, someone will still find a reason to complain and someone will still leave early. Do what works best for you.

Re: Thursday Wedding
I've never been to one. But mine is on a Wednesday, the actual date is very important to me. At first I was just going to go to the justice of peace on the Wednesday, and then do everything like normal. But FH said if they love you they will make the adjustments and come and if they can't its ok. And so far everyone is ok with it because they know in advance. And not for nothing but the $$$ discounts are amazing for all of the vendors. The vendors enjoy it because it's extra money that they normally would not see. Do what is best for you. Most of the people will come and enjoy themselves

Re: Thursday Wedding
I haven't but it wouldn't make a difference to me if care about the person/people getting married. Some people will make a long weekend out of it! :) As a bride previously posted, you can get great discounts from vendors including the RH bec. it's extra $$ they normally wouldn't see. While I wouldn't choose a Thursday over a Friday or Saturday night, I would choose it over a Sunday night because of the discounts. P.S. When I was checking out RHs two Bms (at the Crescent and LE) told us that Thursday is the new hot night for weddings.

Re: Thursday Wedding
i was invited to one during my first year of teaching, which as many of you know, means i did not really have the freedom to take any time off. what that meant for me was running around like a crazy person to shower/dress/etc., not drinking at all during, leaving early, and dragging myself into work even more exhausted than usual on a friday. i did not think it was anywhere near as lively as the weekend weddings i've been to, and there was plenty of complaining from the guests.
IMHO, i wouldn't sacrifice guest comfort to save money. i can appreciate the financial strain of paying for a wedding bc FH and i are doing it ourselves on a teacher's and an ultrasound tech's salary. i know it's hard. we wanted desperately to have our reception at gurney's, but it simply wasn't in our budget, so we opted to go with a cheaper place rather than a cheaper night. you might consider a day wedding on sat or sun rather than a weeknight or a weeknight that's paired with a holiday so people don't have to take time off if money is an issue. i think your guests will have much fonder memories of your special day.
ultimately it's your decision, and i agree with the other posters that the people who love you will make a point of being there. GL with whatever you decide.

Re: Thursday Wedding
I recently got married on a Thursday and it was great! We had a good turn out (more then we even wanted, lol) and lots of people told us they would rather go to a Thursday night and take off on Friday (or just deal with the one day at work then weekend) then go to a Sunday and have to go to work for the rest of the week. I found that people were more willing to take a friday off then a Monday. Do what's best for you. Don't listen to people saying that your guests will be 'inconvienced' - your the one paying for it - they can come and celebrate with you or stay home! Honestly, if you talk to any newlywed they will tell you to F' your guests opinions and comments -- do it the way you want and the way you can! Good Luck!!

Re: Thursday Wedding
I haven't.
But, if you are seriously considering it, analyze your guest list and take a look at how many people are coming in from OOT. Your start and end times may have to be adjusted so that your guests can get there in enough time from their place of work and negotiate traffic. Just as an example, if you were going to book a venue on a major road like 25, 25A, 347 or 112, I'd be very wary of your ceremony start time at 5 or 5.30. Your guests could be stuck in rush hour traffic.
Just something to think about.

Re: Thursday Wedding
I think it is completely crazy! I just went to one last month...FH and I both had to leave work early....then go in late or completely take off on Friday....(which is what we ended up doing.)
In my opinion, it's kind of insane to expect people to come to the church when it's at 2:00 on a work day.......over an hour from the RH. It's not that we didn't have a good time, but I would never want my guests having to stress out about how they are going to get to the church, and on top of this....missing work because of it.

Re: Thursday Wedding
my wedding was thursday the 14th. it was awesome. basically, if thats the date you choose, then people have to decide to come or not. talking about it and complaining is sort of tacky. just dont go if u cant make it!
everyone had a great time, said it was the best wedding ever and it was worth every penny of the discount i got, which btw was only a discount from my hall, not any vendors.
we invited 201 and had 143 come. a little less than expected, but three families had just had babies so they wouldnt have come on a saturday either!

Re: Thursday Wedding
My wedding was on a Thursday. The next day was a holiday and I knew people were off.
If you want a Thursday, then go for it. Who cares what people say. The ones who mean the most to you will be there.

Re: Thursday Wedding
I have been to a Thursday wedding. As a matter of fact it was my MOH's wedding (Aug 06). It was in Atlantica - The night turned out spectacular - in my opinion. There were a lot of OOTer's on the Bride's side of the family who took advantage & used the wedding as an excuse to have a mini vacation. She made sure to let everyone know of the wedding date, at least a year in advanced. I for one, being one of her bridesmaids, was not bothered by this. That weekend was me and my fiancée's anniversary so we made it a long weekend. It was great.
BTW, I am having my wedding on a Thursday night @ The Crescent Beach Club. Trust me this was a very frustrating decision to make b/c I was too concerned with the guests complaining about it (b/c g-d knows how critical my family can be) but honestly it all comes down to one thing: You (&/or your family) are the ones paying for this and not the guests. If you give your guests enough notice - Those who truly care about you & the groom will make every effort to make it or take the time off (full day, half a day or even the weekend) to be there for you on your special day. Both my fiancée and I have always wanted a beach wedding and The Crescent was just too perfect to pass up. We realized that a Friday, Saturday and even a Sunday wedding there would be way out of our budget. I completely agree with Kayla09 & Sohisticat13 with regards to vendors - we have sooooo much room to negotiate because at the end of the day the make up the money on the weekend weddings and they DO appreciate the extra business on a weekday. BTW, Those at the Crescent (and even other venues that we had researched) have mentioned that Thursday weddings are more common now than ever.

Re: Thursday Wedding
Im a nurse and I work most weekeneds. My days off are totally random, rarley a weekened. It doesn't matter to me what day people have their wedding on as long as I get a save the date magnet a year before and I can plan for it. Your guests are people that love you, they will figure it out.

I think that's just being plain rude to talk that way about your guests. Your guests are the ones using a vacation day from work for YOU! Your guests are the ones putting that check in the envelope for YOU! Your guests are there for YOU! What would your wedding be without your guests? Why would you not care how your guests felt at your wedding. And yes, you are paying, but people typically cover their plates these days especially if it's on a Thursday!
I'm not saying don't have it on a Thursday, but you do have to think about the people that you are inviting and not say F* them! You do have to see how many OOTs you have, how many people you are inviting that would have to go to work that day and the day after. You don't want people talking about you behind your back and leaving early.

Re: Thursday Wedding
One of my best friends got married the Thursday before Memorial Day- did I complain- yea but I love her & her dh and I would have been there whatever day it was. Also a PP mentioned that not everyone is off on the weekends and this is so true- so as long as you give people notice, they will make the arrangements that they need to- good luck!
