Re: Thursday Wedding
My wedding was on Thursday, but it was Thanksgiving, and many people are off on Friday. We didn't hear any complaints about the day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted by Kris0703 Don't listen to people saying that your guests will be 'inconvienced' - your the one paying for it - they can come and celebrate with you or stay home! Honestly, if you talk to any newlywed they will tell you to F' your guests opinions and comments -- do it the way you want and the way you can! Good Luck!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that's just being plain rude to talk that way about your guests. Your guests are the ones using a vacation day from work for YOU! Your guests are the ones putting that check in the envelope for YOU! Your guests are there for YOU! What would your wedding be without your guests? Why would you not care how your guests felt at your wedding. And yes, you are paying, but people typically cover their plates these days especially if it's on a Thursday!
I'm not saying don't have it on a Thursday, but you do have to think about the people that you are inviting and not say F* them! You do have to see how many OOTs you have, how many people you are inviting that would have to go to work that day and the day after. You don't want people talking about you behind your back and leaving early.
I couldn't agree with this more!!!!!!!
I am so gald that someone said this....I thought it was the meanest thing!!!
Anyhow, for Thursday wedding girls....being that you received a discount on the per person amount...did you expect a discounted gift amount...or the typical wedding gift?

I dont have to think about the guests when planning my wedding date!!! You choose the date for yourselves not thinking about anyone else. How would you like it if people say Im not coming to your wedding, why would you make it so close to New Years. I couldnt have a Sat night wedding for religious reasons and did not want a Sun afternoon wedding (ppl would then complain about working the next day). If you have OOT guests then they obviously will be here for a day or two around the wedding so it wouldnt matter what day you make it! And to add, not many left early, most people were there until the end.

Wow thats uncalled for!!! I did not book a Thurs for the discounted rate.. and did not get discounted wedding gifts, I actually got more than was expected from most guests.

Re: Thursday Wedding
I was actually asking the question...my friend is getting married in 2010, and was looking at a Thursday, or Friday in February. There is no reason to let me know that something I wrote is uncalled for.
I have just never heard such craziness on these boards...people actually saying to 'F*** their guests' and who cares about them...etc. I actually care about each person coming....I'll be more careful next time I post, so I don't offend anyone.
Thanks for the advice!

Re: Thursday Wedding
I've been to one and WAS having one. I had a good time while I was there but probably could have a GREAT time if I didnt have to work the next day b/c FH and I couldnt get off the next day. I changed my wedding to a friday night b/c FH wanted it. BUT whoever is going to be there is going to be there whether you have it on a thursday night or tuesday afternoon. The wedding I went she invited 360, she had 306 there.

Thurs weddings are great. My friend had one last year and everybody showed up and stayed to the end.

Re: Thursday Wedding
I'm having a Thursday night wedding..
It started as a joke, like hey lets have it on a Thursday to save money, honestly thinking that it wouldn't be an option at all..
Then a lot of my friends were saying it would be the 'new thing' to do since a lot of New York hotspots now start their weekends early on Thursdays...
Then we went to a hall and actually found out that is it really common now, in fact, the date we originally wanted was booked at most halls on a thursday..
We deceided we'd ask out guests and see how they felt... so we asked as many family and friends as we could, and honestly they all said they'd be there regardless of the day and they were all pretty excited about taking a 4 day weekend in the summer...
It seemed perfect to us, of course I was worried at first, but after asking family and friends and hearing their reaction we were all for it..especially since it fit best with our budget..
And as for the poster who asked if I expect a discounted gift...not really. Not that I'd care, it's not the reason I was having a wedding in the first place..but I believe guests usually give what they can regardless of how much the couple paid. I'm expecting a lot of my guests to still give me less than what I paid because I know they all have their own financial issues..and for the ones who give more or cover their place..i'll be more than happy!
I am still paying a fortune for this wedding even on a Thursday!

Re: Thursday Wedding
i never have, and i know if i were to book one almost everyone i know would be alittle upset, it would be very hard for everyone to come after work, and stay late because of work the next day

Re: Thursday Wedding
One more opinion...obviously it's going to be inconvenient for a lot of people, but ultimately you and FH are going to have to do what's right for you. It may result in fewer people being able to attend because of work, school, and childcare commitments. If you're ready to accept that, proceed ahead.

Re: Thursday Wedding
I know someone who had a Thurs. night wedding and had over 400 people there. I think what will end up happening is the people that you're really close with, out of your friends and family, will come. Retired people, local people, they will probably all come and stay the whole time as well. When it comes to people working Friday morning or those living out of town, it may be harder for those people to come and stay the whole time. But these are just things to consider, you can have a lovely wedding and probably have a better chance at having the only wedding at a more-than-one-at-a-time place, or get away with a smaller minimum guarantee if you have it on a Thurs. If the people who matter the most for you are on board and will definitely be there, then do what works for you.

Re: Thursday Wedding
I think the offensive post is from the lady who said not to listen to people who said it was and inconvenience and 'f' your guests. I myself was caught off guard when reading it because I mentioned Thursday nights were inconvenient.
Point is, we are all here to provide feedback and EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion.
Take everything with a grain of salt, formulate your own opinion, and do what works best for you. Regardless of what night you pick, what time of day, where it is located, etc., at least one of your guests will find something to complain about. You may not hear about it but we all know - you can't please everyone all of the time. As everyone has mentioned, the people who want to share in your day, will be there for you.
